Yes, some iPhone 16e units are being assembled in Brazil. Reports identify Foxconn’s Jundiaí factory in São Paulo state as a production site for Brazilian-market devices. But the evidence does not show Apple abandoning China: Brazilian regulatory records reportedly list Brazil, China and India, making this a diversification move rather than a replacement of Chinese production.
What the headline gets right—and wrong
| Claim | What the evidence supports |
|---|---|
| iPhone 16e | Accurate: this is Apple’s entry-level iPhone 16-family model announced in February 2025. |
| Now being made in Brazil | Accurate for at least some units, particularly devices intended for Brazil. |
| Apple is shifting away from China | Reasonable as broad supply-chain context, but too broad as a description of this model’s production. |
| China has been replaced | Not supported. China remains one of the reported assembly locations. |
| Every iPhone 16e is made in Brazil | Not supported. Country of assembly can vary by market, batch, configuration and date. |
MacMagazine reported the Brazilian assembly on April 16, 2025, and BGR independently described the same development the following day. The defensible summary is that Apple added Brazil to the iPhone 16e assembly mix while retaining production in China and India.
MacMagazine’s report is the principal source for the Brazilian manufacturing evidence, while BGR’s coverage provides independent English-language reporting and broader supply-chain context.
What proves that Brazil is involved?
No single clue is conclusive by itself. Together, the reported packaging, regulatory and sales evidence makes the claim credible.

Brazilian packaging
A Brazilian-market iPhone 16e box reportedly carries the wording “Fabricado no Brasil – Indústria Brasileira” (“Made in Brazil – Brazilian Industry”). That is direct labeling on the product packaging, not merely a retailer description.
Anatel homologation documents
Brazil’s telecommunications regulator, Anatel, reportedly identified Foxconn’s São Paulo facility in homologation material for the iPhone 16e. The same documents reportedly list manufacturing locations in Brazil, China and India.
Apple Store part numbers
Brazilian Apple Store listings reportedly use part-number endings such as BR/A. The suffix supports the other evidence, but it should not be treated as a universal country-of-assembly decoder: part numbers can also reflect regional sales and distribution configurations.

Foxconn is Apple’s contract manufacturer. In this context, “made in Brazil” means assembly or manufacturing carried out at the Jundiaí operation under Brazilian labeling and regulatory rules; it does not mean every component was sourced domestically or that Apple owns the plant.

Where is the iPhone 16e assembled?
| Country | What is established |
|---|---|
| Brazil | Foxconn’s Jundiaí facility in São Paulo state has assembled at least some iPhone 16e units, reportedly for the Brazilian market. |
| China | Reported Anatel material still lists China as a production location. |
| India | Reported Anatel material lists India, and Apple told The Economic Times that the entire iPhone 16 lineup, including the 16e, was being assembled in India for Indian consumers and selected export markets. MacRumors summarized that report. |
That distributed footprint means a buyer cannot infer a phone’s origin solely from its model name. Launch inventory may be imported before local assembly ramps up, and later batches can come from a different plant. A Brazilian buyer should inspect the specific box, model information and regulatory markings rather than assume all 16e devices share one origin.
When did Brazilian production begin?
Apple announced the iPhone 16e on February 19, 2025, opened preorders on February 21 and began availability in listed markets on February 28. MacMagazine reported that the phone was available in Brazil from early March and that Brazilian production was underway by its April 16 report. BGR described the evidence as indicating production “since day one,” but that stronger timing claim belongs to the report, not to an Apple announcement.

What “shifting away from China” actually means
Apple’s pattern is better described as concentration-risk reduction than withdrawal. China remains a major manufacturing base, while India and Brazil add capacity closer to important regional markets.
Why diversification is plausible
- COVID-era lockdowns and labor unrest disrupted major Chinese production operations, context highlighted by BGR.
- Additional locations can provide redundancy if one country faces factory, logistics or public-health disruption.
- Brazilian assembly may improve regional inventory planning or interact with local tax and manufacturing incentives.
- A broader footprint can give Apple more flexibility as trade rules and tariffs change.
These are strategic possibilities, not a confirmed single explanation for the iPhone 16e decision. Apple has not publicly said that this model’s Brazilian assembly was created specifically to avoid U.S. tariffs. Nor does the evidence establish that Brazilian output is destined for the United States or Europe.

Why Brazil matters
Brazil combines a large consumer market with an established Foxconn operation and a regulatory framework that can reward local manufacturing. Producing some devices regionally may help Apple manage import costs, inventory and fiscal treatment. The available reporting does not establish production volumes or show that Brazil can match China’s scale.
Later reporting that the iPhone 17e was also assembled in Brazil suggests that Jundiaí remains part of Apple’s regional strategy, but it is not proof of a China exit: MacMagazine’s iPhone 17e report.

Regional differences still matter
Assembly location does not guarantee identical regional hardware. SIM configuration, eSIM support, cellular bands, regulatory labels, warranty terms and included packaging can vary. Before importing a device, check its exact model number and the Apple support page for the country where it will be used.
“Made in Brazil” does not automatically mean cheaper
Local assembly, import-tax treatment, retail pricing and Apple’s margin are separate questions. There is no evidence that Apple automatically passed any manufacturing or tax benefit to consumers. A later MacMagazine report on the iPhone 17e explicitly cautioned that Brazilian production may support fiscal incentives or margins without reducing the retail price.
The iPhone 16e launched in the United States at $599 for 128GB, a February 2025 launch figure rather than a current price. Regional taxes, currency and distribution costs mean it should not be used to infer Brazilian pricing.

- Read the box. Look for country-of-manufacture wording such as “Fabricado no Brasil – Indústria Brasileira.”
- Record the model and part numbers. Treat a
BR/Asuffix as supporting regional evidence, not standalone proof of assembly. - Check regulatory markings. Brazilian-market devices should carry the applicable Anatel information.
- Confirm regional compatibility. Verify SIM/eSIM configuration and supported cellular bands for your carrier.
- Verify service coverage before importing. Apple’s repair and warranty eligibility can depend on model, country, parts availability and local policy.
What this means for Apple’s supply chain—and your money
For Apple, Brazil adds another assembly node and reduces dependence on a single country without eliminating China. For buyers, the manufacturing label is mainly a provenance and regional-compatibility question, not a reliable predictor of quality, specifications or price.
If you are comparing phones, evaluate the 16e on its features and total ownership cost. Apple’s launch materials positioned it as a lower-priced current-generation iPhone, while higher-tier iPhone 16 models offer broader camera systems and Pro models add more advanced displays and materials. Trade-in values, AppleCare+ pricing and accessory costs vary by country and date, so use the relevant local Apple pages rather than assuming U.S. launch figures apply.
