Mother Science reports two clinical studies involving 38 people who used the serum twice daily. The brand says it assessed outcomes with instrumentation, VISIA photography, expert grading and consumer feedback, and reports improvements in the appearance of dark spots, brightness, smoothness and tone over intervals from two to twelve weeks. These are manufacturer-reported results; the product page does not establish independent confirmation or replication of the finished serum’s results. Published research on malassezin
A 2026 randomized, controlled, split-face, double-blind study enrolled 20 adult women with symmetrical mild-to-moderate melasma. Participants applied a topical formulation containing 0.75% malassezin to one side of the face and 4% hydroquinone to the other twice daily for 12 weeks. The published abstract reports improvement from baseline on both sides for brightening, global improvement and hemi-MASI, with no statistically significant difference between treatments at each visit; mild side effects were reported in both groups. This result applies to the tested formulation and participants, not automatically to Molecular Hero Serum, and it does not establish that the marketed serum is equivalent to hydroquinone. A 2022 proof-of-concept study followed seven people with melasma or photodamage who applied topical malassezin twice daily for 14 weeks, followed by eight weeks of observation. The brand also describes malassezin as “10x more powerful than vitamin C.” Treat that as a brand claim, not an independently established comparison of this serum against vitamin C products: the cited evidence does not establish a head-to-head ranking of the finished serum and competing products.

Mother Science’s directions are to cleanse, apply one to two pumps over the face morning and evening, moisturize, and use SPF. The brand says the serum can replace a vitamin C, dark spot or anti-aging serum, or be layered with another serum or treatment. The main reason to consider Molecular Hero Serum is interest in a malassezin-centered product with additional brightening and moisturizing ingredients. The key limitation is the gap between the evidence: the brand reports studies of its serum, while the published papers concern topical malassezin formulations, not necessarily this commercial formula. The available evidence does not establish that it outperforms other serums or is a substitute for clinician-guided melasma care.
