The most reliable rate snapshot available for March 24, 2025, is Freddie Mac’s weekly survey for the week ending March 20: 6.67% for a 30-year fixed mortgage and 5.83% for a 15-year fixed mortgage. Both averages edged up from the prior week, so “fairly steady” describes that small week-over-week movement—not a confirmed lender quote for March 24 itself.

What mortgage rates were reported near March 24, 2025?

Freddie Mac’s Primary Mortgage Market Survey (PMMS) reported these national averages for the week ending Thursday, March 20, 2025:

Mortgage type Weekly average Change from prior week
30-year fixed 6.67% Up 0.02 percentage points
15-year fixed 5.83% Up 0.03 percentage points

The rates and weekly changes are reported in a Norada archive excerpt reproducing Freddie Mac’s weekly figures: Norada’s March 20, 2025 rate coverage. The small increases support describing the two averages as fairly steady from one week to the next.

Why these are not exact March 24 quotes

Freddie Mac’s PMMS is a weekly U.S. survey, not a daily rate board. The survey is normally released on Thursdays and averages offers from the preceding Thursday through Wednesday. Freddie Mac describes its method in its PMMS overview and FAQ.

Because March 24, 2025, was a Monday, the March 20 survey is the relevant nearby weekly benchmark, but it does not establish what a lender would have quoted on March 24. The available sources do not verify a separate March 24 daily rate table. They also do not establish exact-day purchase or refinance rates, APRs, lender fees, or discount points.

How to interpret the national averages

PMMS averages are based on qualifying conventional purchase applications with conforming loan limits. They are not guaranteed offers, approval terms, or promises of the rate any individual borrower can get. Freddie Mac notes that its current survey does not publish fees and points because lenders are not always required to provide them.

Your actual offer depends on your borrower and loan details. For a useful comparison, request personalized estimates from lenders and compare offers with the same loan amount, borrower profile, loan term, and points and fees. Consider APR alongside the interest rate, since the rate alone does not capture all borrowing costs. A national average can provide context, but it cannot determine which offer is best for your purchase or refinance.

What the 15-year and 30-year figures do—and do not—compare

The reported figures compare two fixed-rate loan terms. They do not provide a complete rate comparison by adjustable versus fixed rate or purchase versus refinance, and they do not show how a particular lender prices either term for a particular borrower. Compare personalized offers on consistent terms rather than treating the national averages as interchangeable quotes.
