More Than 60 U.S. Stocks, Including Nvidia and Tesla, Are Proposed for Onchain Trading: How It Would Work

OKXICE’s proposed onchain stock venue would use share-backed entitlements and stablecoin liquidity pools. Here is what the filing says—and what buyers should verify.

OKXICE has proposed a venue for trading tokenized versions of more than 60 U.S. stocks, including Nvidia and Tesla. The filing describes a planned market—not a completed launch or a final list of securities. As CoinDesk reported on Oct. 5, 2026, the proposed tokens would represent entitlements to underlying shares, while trades would take place through stablecoin-funded liquidity pools on a blockchain.

What does “headed onchain” mean in this proposal?

OKXICE is a joint venture between crypto exchange OKX and Intercontinental Exchange (ICE). In a filing reported by CoinDesk, it proposed making tokens tied to more than 60 securities available for trading. The proposed roster includes Nvidia, Tesla, Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, Alphabet, Coinbase, Circle, Robinhood, Strategy, Securitize, JPMorgan, Goldman Sachs, Walmart, Netflix, Reddit and Boeing.

That roster is not a guarantee that every name will be offered. Issuers would have a 30-day period to object, and CoinDesk reported that Cerebras had objected. TD Securities analysts cautioned that “No symbol is a given.” The filing describes a proposal, so the final list and the venue’s launch status should be checked against later announcements.

How would an OKXICE stock token work?

As described in the filing reported by CoinDesk, a registered broker-dealer would hold one underlying share for each token, and the token would represent an entitlement connected to that share. The reported proposal says holders would be entitled to economic and shareholder rights, including dividends and votes. Those are claims about this proposed structure—not a description of every product called a tokenized stock.

In practical terms, a buyer would acquire a blockchain-based token rather than place an ordinary stock order through a conventional brokerage account. The legal documents would determine what the token holder can claim, how the shares are held, and how rights are exercised. A one-for-one backing description alone does not answer those questions.

How would trading and pricing work?

CoinDesk reported that the proposed venue would use USDC, USDT or USDG rather than dollars at the point of trade. Instead of matching buyers and sellers through a traditional order book, the planned system would use automated market-maker (AMM) liquidity pools on OKX’s XLayer, using Uniswap technology. These are reported design plans, not independently confirmed launch specifications.

  1. To buy: a trader would add stablecoins to a pool and receive stock tokens from it.
  2. To sell: a trader would put stock tokens into the pool and receive stablecoins.
  3. To set a price: the pool’s mechanics and available token and stablecoin liquidity would determine the trade price. A sufficiently large trade or a shallow pool could move that price.

That pricing method matters most when the underlying U.S. stock market is closed. The proposal is intended to permit trading 24 hours a day, including nights and weekends. During those periods, the pool would set its own price rather than simply carry forward the last Nasdaq quote. Whether enough buyers, sellers and pool liquidity would keep that price aligned with the underlying stock is an open market question, not a proven result.

The proposed venue would require identity verification and anti-money-laundering checks; “onchain” would not mean anonymous trading. The SEC’s conditions for qualifying venues also require trading to stop in coordination with stoppages in the underlying stock.

Are tokenized stocks real shares?

“Tokenized stock” describes a format, not one uniform legal claim. In a Jan. 28, 2026 staff statement, the SEC explained that tokens can be structured in materially different ways. Investor.gov’s SEC staff education page likewise distinguishes issuer-sponsored, custodial and synthetic products, while noting that its page reflects staff views and has no legal force or effect.

Structure What the token represents Rights and main consideration
Issuer-sponsored An onchain record of ownership issued or recognized by the company. The token may record ownership directly, but the governing terms establish the holder’s rights.
Custodial entitlement An indirect interest in shares held by a custodian or other intermediary. Rights depend on the arrangement and how the intermediary administers them; holders can also face risk from the third party, including bankruptcy risk.
Synthetic exposure Exposure to a stock’s price, without necessarily representing shares or ownership. The holder may have no claim or shareholder rights against the referenced company.

The OKXICE proposal, as reported, is an entitlement backed by shares held one-for-one by a registered broker-dealer. That is not the same as saying a token holder is directly registered as a shareholder. Before buying any specific token, check who issues it, the precise legal claim, custody arrangements, voting and dividend procedures, redemption and transfer terms, eligible jurisdictions, and counterparty exposure.

What has the SEC permitted—and what has it not?

On Sept. 17, 2026, the SEC announced temporary, conditional relief from the statutory definition of “exchange” for qualifying Tokenized Securities Venues (TSVs) that use permissioned AMM liquidity pools to trade tokenized National Market System stocks. The relief also applies to certain liquidity providers if they meet the conditions. It is not blanket approval of any token, issuer or crypto trading platform, and it does not establish that OKXICE has launched.

The SEC’s conditions include:

  • Limits on the number of securities and trading volume.
  • Verification that token holders receive the same rights and privileges as holders of the equivalent class of traditional stock.
  • Written notice to an issuer and an opportunity to object before an unaffiliated third-party token is made available.
  • Auditable, public smart contracts on a public, permissionless ledger.
  • Trading stops coordinated with stoppages in the underlying stock, plus public notice about venue and affiliate activity.

The exemptions described by the SEC expire five years after publication. The conditions are a framework for qualifying venues; they do not replace the need to assess a particular token’s documents, rights and risks.

How is this different from other tokenized-stock plans?

ICE separately announced in January 2026 that the NYSE was developing a tokenized-securities platform, subject to regulatory approvals. Its announcement described plans for 24/7 operations, instant settlement, dollar-sized orders, stablecoin funding, and traditional dividend and governance rights. That is a separate project and does not show that OKXICE is live or that the two platforms use the same legal structure.

Another distinct example is Coinbase Tokenized Stocks. A Chainlink-distributed release dated Aug. 24, 2026 described them as B20 tokens on Base, backed one-for-one by shares held with Alpaca under the Abu Dhabi Global Market framework and available only in eligible jurisdictions outside the United States. That vendor-partner description illustrates how custody, chain and geography can differ; it is not evidence of OKXICE’s structure or regulatory treatment.

What should a prospective buyer verify?

  • The legal claim: Is the token direct issuer-recognized ownership, an entitlement to shares held by another party, or synthetic price exposure?
  • Rights in practice: Who receives dividends, how are they passed through, and how can voting rights be exercised?
  • Custody and counterparties: Who holds the underlying shares, and what happens if the issuer, custodian or another intermediary fails?
  • Transfers and exit: Can the token be transferred or redeemed, under what conditions, and in which jurisdictions is it available?
  • Trading and price: What venue sets the price outside regular stock-market hours, how deep is its liquidity, and what happens during a halt in the underlying stock?
