Montecito’s celebrity estates have changed hands for millions, but reported sale prices are not the same as current home values—and a past purchase does not establish who lives in a property today. These seven examples trace documented purchases, sales, and one disputed transaction, with each figure tied to its date and source rather than presented as a ranking of the area’s most expensive homes.
What the reported prices do—and don’t—tell you
The figures below are historical transaction prices reported by news and real-estate publications. They are not appraisals or estimates of what a property is worth now. The available reports also describe a mix of former owners, buyers, sellers, and people involved in a legal dispute; they do not establish a comprehensive list of current Montecito residents or property occupants.
Lot size and property features are included when a cited report provides them. A price without a published size or feature detail should not be read as a direct comparison with another estate.
Seven celebrity connections to Montecito estates
1. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle: reported 2020 purchase
The Los Angeles Times reported in 2020 that the couple bought a Montecito home in an off-market transaction for $14.65 million. Architectural Digest later described the estate as spanning 7.4 acres and rounded the purchase price to $14.7 million in its 2021 account. Those are reports of the purchase, not a current valuation or confirmation of present occupancy.

2. Oprah Winfrey and Jeff Bridges: a ranch sale, followed by another sale
Oprah Winfrey bought a Spanish Revival ranch from actor Jeff Bridges in 2019 for $6.85 million, according to the Los Angeles Times. The four-acre property was described as having a pool, spa, guesthouse, poolhouse, carriage house, and equestrian stables. Architectural Digest reported Winfrey’s sale of the property in 2025 at $17.1 million; other contemporary coverage cited a different figure, so that amount should be understood as Architectural Digest’s reported sale price, not a universally agreed value (Architectural Digest, 2025).
Bridges is relevant here as the ranch’s former owner. The Los Angeles Times separately reported that he sold a nearly 20-acre vineyard estate for $15.925 million in 2017; that was a different property, not the ranch he sold to Winfrey (Los Angeles Times, 2017).
Rank #2
3. Rob Lowe and Sheryl Berkoff: a reported acquisition and custom build
Rob Lowe and Sheryl Berkoff reportedly acquired a 6.7-acre Montecito property for $13 million in 2020. Realtor.com’s 2025 report describes the transaction retrospectively and says the couple undertook a custom home build; it does not make the 2020 price a current valuation (Realtor.com, 2025).
4. Ellen DeGeneres and Ariana Grande: a former-owner transaction
The Los Angeles Times reported that Ellen DeGeneres sold an English Tudor-style Montecito house to Ariana Grande for $6.75 million in 2020 (Los Angeles Times, 2020). The transaction establishes a seller-and-buyer connection to the home at that time; it is not evidence that either person currently lives there.

The Associated Press reported in August 2025 that a second trial was taking place in a dispute over the sale of a Montecito home associated with Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom. The reported contract price was $15 million, but the case involved claims and counterclaims about the sale and alleged property costs—not a settled current valuation. While testifying, Perry said, “I stand to lose money if it doesn’t work in my favor” (Associated Press, August 2025). That report does not establish the litigation’s final outcome.
6. Adam Levine and Behati Prinsloo: two separate homes, two reported 2025 transactions
These transactions concern different Montecito properties. Realtor.com reported in 2025 that Adam Levine and Behati Prinsloo bought a Spanish-style property from Winfrey for $17.27 million (Realtor.com, 2025). Architectural Digest separately reported that the couple sold a Georgian-style Montecito mansion for $60 million in 2025 (Architectural Digest, 2025). The $60 million figure belongs to the reported sale of their other home; it is not the price of the property they bought from Winfrey.
Rank #4
7. Jeff Bridges: a second, separate estate sale
Bridges’s 2017 sale of a nearly 20-acre vineyard estate for a reported $15.925 million is another notable Montecito-area property transaction. It should be kept distinct from the Spanish Revival ranch he sold to Winfrey in 2019. The two reported sales document past property connections, not Bridges’s present ownership or residence (Los Angeles Times, 2017).

How to compare these estate figures responsibly
- Check what the number represents. A reported purchase price, sale price, and asking price are different kinds of figures. The examples here are historical transactions, not current market estimates.
- Keep each property’s story separate. Winfrey’s ranch sale to Bridges and later sale, the separate property reported sold to Levine and Prinsloo, and Bridges’s vineyard sale are not one estate changing hands in a single chain.
- Use the date and attribution. For example, the $6.85 million figure is the Los Angeles Times’ report of Winfrey’s 2019 purchase; the $17.1 million figure is Architectural Digest’s reported 2025 sale price for that ranch.
- Do not infer residence from a transaction. A reported purchase documents a buyer’s connection at the time, while a later sale, dispute, or absence of newer reporting leaves present ownership or occupancy unestablished.
