What Scopely said about the $2 billion milestone
Scopely announced the milestone on March 14, 2024, describing it as $2 billion in lifetime revenue. Co-CEO Javier Ferreira wrote that the game reached the mark ten months after launch and three months after its $1 billion milestone. The announcement did not explain whether “revenue” included particular sales channels or how the figure was calculated, so it should be read as a company-reported figure, not as an independently verified or audited result. How quickly the game reached that point

What Scopely credited for the growth
In a reflection on the milestone, Ferreira pointed to player engagement and retention. He wrote that more than 8 million people played every day of the week—over 70% of the game’s 10 million-plus daily players at that point—and that players logged in more than three times a day on average. He also said marketing recoup rates remained below 120 days almost a year after launch. These are company statements, not independently verified measurements. How to interpret later revenue figures
The $2 billion announcement is a historical milestone, not the latest reported measure of the game’s scale. In January 2026, Sensor Tower estimated that MONOPOLY GO! had surpassed $6 billion in lifetime in-app purchase revenue during 2025. That estimate covers iOS and Google Play purchases and excludes advertising, direct-to-consumer sales, and other revenue. Hasbro also acknowledged the $6 billion IAP milestone. A separate Scopely retrospective said the game reached $5 billion in gross bookings in 24 months. Gross bookings is the company’s wording and is a different metric; it should not be substituted for revenue or Sensor Tower’s estimated IAP total. What the game is—and what the milestone does not mean
Scopely describes MONOPOLY GO! as a free-to-play mobile reimagining of Hasbro’s MONOPOLY board game. The revenue milestone does not mean players must buy the physical board game to play the app. Nor does “free-to-play” mean every in-game item or feature is necessarily free; the milestone alone does not provide a breakdown of how players spent money or how much typical players spent.
