The claims are allegations reported by Iowa Capital Dispatch on September 18, 2025—not court findings.
What the workers allege
The seven plaintiffs named in the report are Homero Reyes, Manuel Ozuna Chavez, Luis Acuna, Antonio de la Rosa, Felipe Arevalo Gonzalez, Juan Antonio Cantu Gonzalez, and Juan Lopez Escamilla. They are described as Texas residents recruited over five years for seasonal jobs at Remington’s seed-corn processing facility in DeWitt.
According to the report, the complaint alleges that workers were required to stay at a Quality Inn in Clinton, sometimes four people in a two-bed room, and reimburse Chapa for lodging. It also alleges they were barred from the hotel’s complimentary breakfast and from using their personal vehicles.
The complaint reportedly says each worker had to reimburse Chapa $450 for bus rides and meals. That is the amount alleged per worker in this case as reported by Iowa Capital Dispatch; it is not an independently verified figure or a broader estimate of farmworker expenses.

How the lawsuit connects reimbursements to wages
The workers allege that required reimbursements reduced their overtime compensation below the level required by federal law. The suit asserts claims under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), the federal law governing minimum wage and overtime for covered workers, and the Migrant and Seasonal Agricultural Worker Protection Act (MSPA), which sets protections for migrant and seasonal agricultural workers.
The complaint also alleges that housing controlled for migrant agricultural workers did not meet federal safety and health standards. These assertions have not been established as findings by a court in the reporting available here.
