Midjourney V1 is an image-to-video model, not a conventional text-to-video generator. You begin with a Midjourney image or an uploaded still, then animate it into a five-second clip. The cheapest entry is the $10-per-month Basic plan, but video uses a shared GPU-minute allowance rather than a fixed number of clips: one standard-definition (SD) video costs 2 GPU minutes, while one high-definition (HD) video costs 7.
Midjourney introduced V1 on June 18, 2025. Current plan and video details below reflect the company’s documentation and pricing page viewed August 18, 2026.
What Midjourney V1 actually is
V1 is Midjourney’s first video-generation model. Its defining limitation is also its intended workflow: it animates a starting image instead of creating a complete scene from a blank text prompt. You can use an image made in Midjourney or upload an external image, then choose automatic or manual animation and describe the motion you want.
The model is available in Midjourney’s web workflow, with video prompting also documented for Discord. Initial videos are five seconds long. Extensions add approximately four seconds each, up to a documented maximum of 21 seconds after four extensions.

Midjourney’s launch announcement describes V1 as substantially cheaper than some competing video systems, but that comparison is the company’s claim rather than an independent market measurement: Midjourney’s V1 announcement.
How to make a V1 video
- Open a Midjourney image or upload a still you have the right to use.
- Select Animate and choose Auto or Manual animation.
- Choose Low Motion or High Motion.
- Add a motion description if you are using Manual mode.
- Generate in SD while testing ideas.
- Choose the strongest result, extend it only if the movement works, and use HD for a final version if needed.
- Download the social-optimized MP4, raw video, or GIF. Midjourney documents all three download choices.
For Discord users, the documented video parameters include:
--motion lowor--motion high--raw, which reduces some automatic styling and gives the prompt more influence--loop, which creates a loop by reusing the starting frame as the ending frame--end <image URL>, for a separate ending frame--bs 1,--bs 2, or--bs 4, to select the batch size
Examples:
A slow cinematic camera push toward the subject --motion low --bs 1
A fast handheld chase through a neon city --motion high --raw --bs 2

See Midjourney’s current plan comparison before subscribing because features and availability can change. Pro and Mega’s unlimited Relax video is slower queued rendering, not unlimited immediate Fast output. HD does not work in Relax Mode.

A batch is the number of videos made from one prompt. Therefore, one SD five-second clip costs 2 GPU minutes; four SD clips cost 8 minutes and provide 20 seconds of total generated footage. One HD clip costs 7 minutes; four HD clips cost 26 minutes.
These are GPU-minute calculations, not cash prices per clip. A Basic account has 200 Fast minutes, so it could theoretically submit 25 four-video SD jobs, or as many as 100 five-second clips, if every minute were devoted to video and every generation succeeded. In practice, images, retries, moderation behavior, extensions and other use reduce that amount. Each extension costs the same GPU time as the original generation, so a 21-second result can consume substantially more than a five-second clip.
SD versus HD: when the extra cost makes sense
Midjourney describes HD as approximately 3.2 times more expensive than normal video. The documented four-video comparison is 8 GPU minutes in SD versus 26 in HD, or about 3.25 times as much. HD is listed as 720p; SD is listed as 480p.

Which plan should you choose?
Basic: cheapest practical trial
At $10 monthly, Basic is the lowest-cost way to test V1. Its 200 Fast minutes suit occasional experiments and low-volume social clips. It is a poor fit for repeated HD testing or heavy image-and-video use because both consume the same allowance.
Standard: regular creator and HD users
Standard costs $30 monthly and includes 15 Fast GPU hours plus SD and HD video. It is the likely middle ground for creators who need HD but do not need unlimited Relax video. The plan comparison does not list Relax video for Standard.
Pro: privacy and heavy SD experimentation
Pro costs $60 monthly, includes 30 Fast hours, unlimited SD video in Relax Mode and Stealth Mode. It is the practical choice for confidential client work, unreleased campaigns or creators generating many SD variations.
Mega: highest capacity
Mega costs $120 monthly, includes 60 Fast hours and the same unlimited SD Relax and Stealth features as Pro. Choose it when concurrent jobs and a larger Fast-time pool matter more than minimizing the subscription fee.
Motion controls and common failures
Low Motion
Low Motion is suited to ambient scenes, subtle subject movement and mostly static cameras. It can look nearly still because it is intentionally conservative.

High Motion
High Motion is intended for stronger camera or subject movement. It can also create unstable or unrealistic motion, so simplify the prompt or switch back to Low Motion when artifacts appear.
If the Animate button is missing
Older Discord upscales may need to be refreshed with the show command before video controls appear.

Use High Motion or rewrite the prompt with explicit camera and subject movement.
If movement is chaotic
Reduce the motion setting, simplify the description, start with a clearer image, or try --raw.
If GPU minutes disappear too quickly
Use --bs 1 or --bs 2, stay in SD while iterating, and do not extend weak clips.
If an upload is blocked or controls do not work
Midjourney says a blocked job costs no credits when no result is shown. Uploaded material must still be used lawfully. Image prompts, style references and Omni References are documented as incompatible with video generations. The output aspect ratio may also change slightly from the source image.

- It is not a blank-prompt text-to-video workflow; a starting image is required.
- The documented maximum is 21 seconds, so it is not a long-form scene generator.
- The cited V1 documentation does not establish native dialogue, music, sound effects or lip synchronization.
- High Motion can produce artifacts, and character or object continuity is not guaranteed across extended shots.
- GPU-minute billing makes a guaranteed per-second cash price impossible.
V1 is strongest when the starting point is a polished illustration, portrait, product frame or stylized scene and the goal is a short animation, loop, transition or social post.
Commercial use, ownership and privacy
Midjourney says users own the images and videos they create, with important exceptions. If you upscale another Midjourney user’s image, that creator owns the original and permission is required. Businesses generating more than $1 million in gross revenue per year must use Pro or Mega for commercial use, according to Midjourney’s commercial-use guidance.
Those are contractual terms, not a universal copyright guarantee. Copyrightability and registrability vary by country, and you remain responsible for rights in uploaded photographs, people, brands and recognizable characters. Stealth Mode, available only on Pro and Mega, keeps creations private within Midjourney’s service.

Check the providers’ current terms and prices: Runway pricing, Google AI pricing and Adobe Firefly features. None is universally better: the right choice depends on whether you value Midjourney’s image aesthetics, Runway’s production tooling, Veo’s API and audio workflow, or Adobe integration.
