The 50% increase was a U.S. price change announced on October 1, 2025: Xbox Game Pass Ultimate rose from $19.99 to $29.99 per month. That is no longer the current U.S. price: Microsoft later announced a reduction to $22.99 per month, effective April 21, 2026. Prices vary by region, so check the amount and renewal terms shown for your account on Xbox’s plan page.
What the 50% increase meant
On October 1, 2025, Xbox announced a refresh of its Game Pass plans. In the United States, Ultimate went from $19.99 to $29.99 per month: a $10 monthly increase, equal to 50% of the former price. The announcement also described an expanded catalog and added benefits. This was a U.S. price change, not a universal price that can be applied to every country or subscriber. Microsoft’s October 2025 announcement, distributed by Publicnow, documents the change.
What Ultimate costs in the U.S. now
Microsoft announced on April 21, 2026, that the U.S. monthly price would fall from $29.99 to $22.99, effective that day. That later reduction means the October 2025 $29.99 figure is historical, not the current U.S. price. Microsoft’s announcement notes that prices vary by region; check the Microsoft Store listing and Xbox plan page for the live amount, promotions, and applicable tax treatment before subscribing or renewing. The announcement appeared in a Brazilian regional edition, so it does not establish the exact price or timing in other markets. Xbox’s April 21, 2026 price update.
How to decide whether Ultimate is worth the cost
There is no single best tier for every player. Compare the monthly price and renewal terms displayed in your region with the features you will actually use. Xbox currently lists Ultimate, Premium, Essential, and PC Game Pass; feature, catalog, platform, and regional availability can differ and may change. Review Xbox’s plan comparison and confirm that the games and features you want are included for your platform.

Cloud gaming limits announced for November 2026
On September 3, 2026, Xbox announced monthly cloud gaming hour limits that were scheduled to begin in November 2026. The announced allowances were 15 hours for Ultimate, 10 for Premium, and 5 for Essential per month; Xbox estimated the change would affect approximately 4% of Game Pass subscribers. These were forthcoming limits when announced, not evidence that the limits have since taken effect unchanged. If cloud hours could affect your choice, check Xbox’s latest notice and plan terms.
