Three senior appointments involving Seattle-area organizations were reported between July 14 and July 18, 2025: Microsoft veteran Vahé Torossian joined Tola Capital as a venture partner, Amperity named Dr. Grigori Melnik its chief product officer, and GeekWire reported that Edelman executive Ryan Cudney would join Boeing. The moves span venture investing, customer-data software and corporate communications; they were separate announcements, not evidence of a coordinated hiring push.
Vahé Torossian joins Tola Capital
Tola Capital announced on July 18, 2025, that Torossian had joined the Seattle-founded venture firm as a venture partner. The firm said he would work with portfolio-company CEOs on growth and strategic initiatives, rather than take over the investment firm’s day-to-day leadership. Tola’s announcement says managing director Sheila Gulati had worked with him previously at Microsoft.
From Microsoft and Builder.ai to portfolio support
Torossian spent 31 years at Microsoft, including as corporate vice president of Business Applications and as chief executive of the company’s operations in Western Europe, France, and Central and Eastern Europe. Before joining Tola, he was deputy CEO of Builder.ai; GeekWire also described him as having held other roles there, including chief revenue officer. His experience spans enterprise software, international operations, partnerships and global go-to-market work—areas that can matter to software companies selling into large organizations and expanding across markets.
A venture partner’s remit is distinct from running a portfolio company or leading a venture firm. In this case, Tola specifically described a role supporting portfolio-company leaders. His operating background may help founders navigate enterprise customers and expansion, but the announcement did not identify a particular investment or say he would lead deals.

Tola’s enterprise and AI focus
Tola invests in enterprise software and lists themes including domain-specific foundation models, AI and machine-learning tools, AI software-as-a-service applications, AI compliance and governance, AI security, and software for the “enterprise of the future.” The firm’s current site says it has raised $688 million and invested in more than 50 portfolio companies. GeekWire described it in July 2025 as having roughly $700 million in assets under management and more than 40 portfolio companies. Those are differently framed figures—capital raised versus reported assets under management, alongside portfolio counts at different times—and should not be treated as identical measures. Tola’s third fund, announced in 2023, was $230 million; it was not a new fund announcement tied to Torossian’s appointment. More firm history appears on Tola’s about page.
Torossian’s appointment adds senior operating experience to a firm investing in enterprise technology. Tola framed the practical purpose as helping portfolio leaders accelerate growth and strategic initiatives; the hire alone does not establish a new investment strategy or a specific AI deal.

Amperity appoints Grigori Melnik as chief product officer
Amperity announced on July 14, 2025, that Dr. Grigori Melnik had become its chief product officer, responsible for product strategy and execution. He brought more than 25 years of product and technology experience from Microsoft, Splunk, MongoDB, Tricentis and Cribl, and holds a Ph.D. in computer science from the University of Calgary. Amperity’s appointment announcement says he worked on platform transformation, multi-product strategy, developer ecosystems and product-organization growth. It also credits him with helping Splunk grow to more than $1 billion in annual revenue while building its developer ecosystem; that characterization is Amperity’s.
What Amperity’s platform does
Amperity describes its product as an AI-powered customer data cloud, or customer data platform. It is designed to resolve customer identities across fragmented records, combine historical data with real-time signals, and support marketing, service, analytics and AI workflows. The company says more than 400 brands use its platform, naming Alaska Airlines, DICK’S Sporting Goods, BECU and Wyndham Hotels & Resorts. It was founded in 2016 and lists offices in Seattle, New York City, London and Melbourne, according to the announcement.

Why a product leadership hire matters
A CPO leads product direction and delivery, a different responsibility from Torossian’s portfolio-advisory role. Melnik’s experience across enterprise platforms, data infrastructure and developer tools could be relevant as Amperity develops products for both technical teams and business users. The company said he would lead product strategy and execution; the appointment announcement does not establish that the hire produced any particular launch, customer win or revenue change.
GeekWire reports Ryan Cudney’s move from Edelman to Boeing
GeekWire reported on July 18, 2025, that Cudney was set to join Boeing later that month as vice president of a new external communications and analytics team. The publication said the organization would bring together media relations, social media, analytics, insights and communications-tools operations. The role and expected timing are reported by GeekWire; the available first-party information here does not independently confirm Boeing’s current organizational chart or Cudney’s present title.

Agency experience and the new remit
Cudney had spent more than 12 years at Edelman, where he led the agency’s Pacific Northwest team covering Seattle and Portland. GeekWire reported that he had worked with Boeing as an Edelman client and helped build the agency’s aviation client base. His move would take him from agency leadership into an in-house corporate communications role.
Combining media relations with digital channels, measurement and communications tools reflects how corporate affairs increasingly joins reputation management with audience data and analytics. Cudney’s prior work with Boeing may have given him familiarity with the company, but the reporting does not establish why Boeing selected him or what prompted the team’s creation.

What the three appointments have in common—and what they do not
The moves connect Seattle-area business to three different needs: venture-backed enterprise companies seeking experienced operating advice, a customer-data platform emphasizing product leadership, and a large corporation organizing communications across channels and analytics. Torossian’s and Melnik’s appointments are documented by their organizations, and both were still listed in their respective roles on the available Tola and Amperity profile pages. Cudney’s Boeing appointment remains attributed here to GeekWire’s 2025 report. Together, the announcements illustrate movement between major technology companies, startups, investors, agencies and large enterprises, but do not by themselves prove a broader labor-market trend.
