Microsoft Rewards can make Bing worth trying, but it usually is not worth abandoning Google solely for points. Use Bing when it gives you good answers and treat the rewards as a small rebate for searches you would make anyway. Keep Google for queries, maps, or other services where it consistently works better.
Rewards limits, tiers, offers, and redemption catalogs vary by country and Microsoft account. The figures and policy references below reflect Microsoft information available around August 16, 2026; check your own Rewards dashboard before relying on any total.

What Microsoft Rewards actually is
Microsoft Rewards is a free program attached to a Microsoft account; there is no separate membership fee. Qualifying activities can include Bing searches, dashboard quizzes and daily tasks, Microsoft Store purchases, Xbox games or quests, selected purchases, mobile activity, and temporary promotions. Availability depends on your market, device, browser, account level, and the current offer set.
Microsoft says points have no cash value. Its support documentation says about 5,000 points commonly correspond to something worth $5, but that is an approximate example rather than a guaranteed exchange rate. See Microsoft’s earning and points guidance.

What points can buy
- Retail or platform gift cards shown in your market.
- Microsoft and Xbox-related rewards.
- Sweepstakes entries.
- Charitable donations and other offers displayed in your account.
Reward prices, inventory, verification requirements, redemption limits, and availability can change. Points expire after 12 months without earning activity, according to Microsoft’s support page. Microsoft also reserves the right to change or discontinue the program under its Services Agreement.
How much can you realistically earn?
There is no reliable universal “daily Bing income” figure. Microsoft’s official pages currently show different tier names and search limits: one support page describes Level 1 and Level 2 with up to 10 and 30 searches per day, while the Rewards “About” page lists regular, Silver, and Gold tiers with up to 5, 10, and 20 searches. That inconsistency appears to reflect phased, market-specific, or account-specific changes.

Therefore, open your live dashboard and record the search cap, tier, daily activities, and redemption prices shown for your account. Do not use a generic points-per-search claim as a budget assumption.
Separate the sources of value
| Source | What it means | How to evaluate it |
|---|---|---|
| Search points | Capped qualifying searches; limits vary by account and region. | Count only searches you would naturally make. |
| Daily activities | Quizzes, trivia, and dashboard tasks that may change. | Measure the minutes required, not just the points. |
| Promotions | Temporary bonuses or seasonal offers. | Do not treat a promotion as recurring income. |
| Microsoft Store and Xbox | Eligible spending or activity can add points. | Value is higher for people already buying games or Microsoft products; never spend extra just to earn points. |
Calculate the effective hourly value
Use this simple calculation:
Effective hourly value = redeemable reward value ÷ time spent on qualifying activities.

For example, if natural searches and a quick daily check produce the equivalent of $5 over a month with almost no added time, that is a useful rebate. If you spend several minutes every day opening pages, completing quizzes, changing devices, or inventing searches, the hourly value may be negligible. A “maximum” that combines search caps, bonuses, and Xbox spending is not the same as ordinary search-only earnings.
Why maximizing points can backfire
Microsoft says searches must be genuine, manually entered searches for personal research. Its guidance warns against rapid back-to-back searches, meaningless strings, repeated characters, bots, macros, scripts, and activity designed only to farm points. VPN or location manipulation can also make activity appear to come from another market.

- Spread ordinary searches through the day rather than firing them off in a burst.
- Do not automate clicks or searches.
- Stop when your account reaches its displayed daily limit.
- Keep your normal market and account information consistent.
Possible consequences include temporary search limits, suspended accounts, or invalidated points. See Microsoft’s search-limiting guidance.
Bing versus Google: test the tasks that matter to you
Neither engine is categorically best. Results vary by query, country, language, device, and personalization. A recent academic comparison of coding-related searches found meaningful differences among Google, Bing, and Apple Search, illustrating why one universal ranking is misleading (study).

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. You do not need to switch browsers
Bing is the search engine; Edge is a browser. Microsoft says you can set Bing as the default search provider in Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and other supported browsers, or use Bing directly at bing.com. Specific mobile earning methods can require the Bing app, Bing as the default engine, or Microsoft Launcher on Android, depending on your region.
- Sign in to the intended Microsoft account.
- Open rewards.bing.com and note your tier, search limit, current activities, and available redemptions.
- Set Bing as your browser’s search provider only if you want ordinary searches to qualify where supported.
- Use the dashboard’s redemption page, review the displayed cost and any verification requirement, and confirm the order. Order History shows completed rewards.
Privacy and account trade-offs
Bing is not automatically private, and Google is not the only company that tracks search activity. Microsoft says Bing may collect search terms, IP address, location, cookie or similar identifiers, search time and date, browser configuration, and related interactions. Signed-in activity can appear in Microsoft’s privacy dashboard (search-history help; privacy statement).
Google’s policy likewise describes collection of search, location-related, account, and personalization information, with controls for history, personalization, and deletion (Google privacy policy; policy details effective May 26, 2026 at this page).
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems- Signing in to either service can associate searches with an account.
- Ad-personalization settings, search history, browser controls, and deletion choices matter more than the brand name alone.
- Rewards may encourage you to stay signed in to Microsoft, making that account relationship more central.
- If your priority is stronger privacy, compare settings or consider a privacy-focused provider rather than assuming Bing solves tracking.
A practical seven-day Bing trial
- Baseline: Record the dashboard’s displayed tier, search cap, activities, and rewards.
- Use real queries: For one week, search normally on Bing; do not add artificial queries for points.
- Keep a fallback: Use Google when Bing’s first results are inadequate, especially for local, specialist, or high-stakes questions.
- Track friction: Note second searches, extra minutes, interface annoyances, and results by category.
- Track value: Record points earned and the reward you could actually redeem, not a hypothetical catalog item.
- Decide: Compare the reward value with your added time and inconvenience, then choose a primary engine, a secondary engine, or a task-based split.
Who should switch—and who should not?
Bing may suit you as a main engine if
- You already use Windows, Edge, Xbox, or Microsoft Store.
- Bing handles your routine searches without frequent retries.
- You value occasional gift cards and can earn them without changing your behavior.
- You prefer Bing’s image, video, shopping, or integrated features.
Keep Google as your main engine if
- You rely heavily on Google Maps, YouTube, Gmail, Android, or other Google services.
- Bing routinely causes second searches for technical, local, or obscure questions.
- You do not want to remain signed in to a Microsoft account.
- Rewards would require daily quizzes or artificial activity to feel worthwhile.
Use both if
- Search quality varies by task.
- You want the rebate without sacrificing a familiar engine for difficult queries.
- You can switch quickly with browser shortcuts, separate tabs, or a keyboard search choice.
Bottom line
Microsoft Rewards is best viewed as a small rebate—not passive income and not a reason by itself to abandon Google. Try Bing for a week, measure your actual time and results, and keep Google where it remains better. For most readers, a dual-search workflow captures much of the reward value while preserving the ecosystem and search quality they already rely on.
