Quick verdict: A $39.97 Office 2021 offer was published by Neowin Deals on October 6, 2025, but its current price and availability are unverified. It was a third-party promotion powered by StackCommerce, not a normal Microsoft Store sale. More importantly, Microsoft’s official support for Office 2021 ends on October 13, 2026. Buy only if the live checkout clearly identifies the edition and license, activates through Microsoft’s normal process, and you accept the short remaining support period.
Is the $39.97 price still live?
The advertised price comes from a Neowin Deals listing dated October 6, 2025: Microsoft Office 2021 Professional Plus for $39.97. Neowin discloses that its deals operation is powered by StackCommerce and earns commission. That makes this a third-party offer rather than a Microsoft Store price.
As of August 2026, the original checkout could not be freshly verified. Treat the offer as unverified until the page shows all of the following:
- $39.97 before any tax, fee, or required coupon—or the current replacement price.
- The exact edition and license type.
- The seller handling payment and delivery.
- Windows-only or other platform restrictions.
- The redemption deadline and refund terms.
Neowin’s listing described a one-time digital code for one Windows PC, with redemption within 30 days of purchase. It also described worldwide availability, but regional eligibility should be checked at checkout rather than assumed.

What the deal claims to include
The deal description lists Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, OneNote, Publisher, and Access for installation on one Windows PC. Those inclusions should be treated as the seller’s description unless the checkout license terms confirm them.
Teams being listed as an application does not by itself provide Microsoft 365-hosted Teams services, Exchange Online, SharePoint, OneDrive storage, business administration, or collaboration entitlements.
Professional and Professional Plus are not interchangeable
Office Professional 2021
Microsoft’s consumer and small-business product page describes Office Professional 2021 as a one-PC purchase containing Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Publisher, and Access: Microsoft Office Professional 2021.
Rank #2
- [Ideal for One Person] — With a one-time purchase of Microsoft Office Home & Business 2024, you can create, organize, and get things done.
- [Classic Office Apps] — Includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and OneNote.
- [Desktop Only & Customer Support] — To install and use on one PC or Mac, on desktop only. Microsoft 365 has your back with readily available technical support through chat or phone.
Office Professional Plus or LTSC Professional Plus
“Professional Plus” generally refers to commercial or volume-licensing editions. Microsoft lists Office LTSC Professional Plus in its enterprise licensing material: Microsoft Product Terms. If a deal headline says “Professional Plus” while checkout says “Professional 2021,” ask which edition and license you are actually buying.
How to check whether the key is legitimate
A key that activates is not conclusive proof that it was transferred with valid consumer rights. It could be region-limited, volume-based, unauthorized for resale, or later revoked.
- Read the exact product title. Look for Office Professional 2021, Professional Plus 2021, Office LTSC 2021, or another precise designation.
- Confirm the platform and device count. The advertised offer is described as Windows-only and one PC; do not assume Mac rights.
- Identify the license category. Ask whether it is retail, OEM, volume, or another type, and whether business use and transfer are permitted.
- Check the activation route. A legitimate code should redeem through Microsoft’s account and setup flow. Stop if instructions require an activator, remote access, antivirus deactivation, an unknown executable, or sharing an account.
- Read replacement and refund rules. Find out what happens if the first computer fails or the code has already been redeemed.
- Pay with buyer protection. Use a credit card or another reversible method for an unverified seller.
“Lifetime” does not mean lifetime support
Deal pages may use “lifetime” to mean no recurring subscription. It does not promise lifetime Microsoft support, security updates, free upgrades, unlimited installations, transferability, or continued activation if Microsoft invalidates the key.

Office 2021 support ends October 13, 2026
Microsoft’s lifecycle page sets Office 2021’s retirement date at October 13, 2026: Office 2021 lifecycle.
After that date, Microsoft says Office 2021 will receive no further security fixes, bug fixes, technical support, software updates, or most support-content updates: Microsoft’s end-of-support guidance. The applications may continue to open, but continued operation is not the same as a secure, supported installation.

Decision checklist
Buy the discounted offer only when the live price is acceptable, the seller and edition are clear, the license covers your intended personal or business use, activation follows Microsoft’s normal process, and you knowingly accept support ending October 13, 2026.
Choose Office Home 2024 for a safer current perpetual license, Microsoft 365 Personal or Family for ongoing updates and cloud access, or Microsoft’s free web apps when browser-based basics are enough.
