Michael Jordan’s white No. 23 jersey from Game 3 of the 1998 NBA Finals sold for $12.26 million through Joopiter, setting a record for Jordan memorabilia sold at auction. The result topped the $10.091 million paid in 2022 for his red Game 1 jersey from the same Finals by $2.169 million. The reported sale coverage does not establish that it sold on a single bid.
Which Jordan jersey sold for $12.26 million?
The item was Jordan’s white Chicago Bulls No. 23 jersey from Game 3 of the 1998 NBA Finals—not the red jersey from Game 1 that sold in 2022. Current sale reports identify Joopiter, the digital auction house founded by Pharrell Williams, as the seller’s auction platform. The result was reported by Field Level Media on September 30, 2026 and Anadolu Ajansı on October 1, 2026.
Before the sale, the reported estimate was $10 million to $15 million, so the $12.26 million result fell within that range. Field Level Media’s August 17, 2026 pre-sale report gave the estimate. The reports reviewed do not specify whether the final figure is a hammer price or includes a buyer’s premium, so it is best treated simply as the reported sale price.
How it compares with Jordan’s 2022 jersey sale
| Jersey | Sale year and auction house | Reported sale price | Record significance |
|---|---|---|---|
| White No. 23 jersey, Game 3 of the 1998 Finals | 2026, Joopiter | $12.26 million | Reported as the most expensive Jordan memorabilia item sold at auction |
| Red No. 23 jersey, Game 1 of the 1998 Finals | 2022, Sotheby’s | $10.091 million | Previous Jordan memorabilia auction record |
The difference between the two reported prices is $2.169 million. ABC News reported the 2022 Sotheby’s result as $10.1 million when the sale took place; the more precise figure of $10.091 million is used in current comparisons. ABC News’ September 15, 2022 report covered that earlier sale.

Why Game 3 is tied to the “Last Dance” story
The game was played on June 7, 1998, at Chicago’s United Center, with the Finals tied 1–1. The Bulls beat the Utah Jazz 96–54. Anadolu Ajansı reported Jordan’s line as 24 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal and 1 block. The jersey’s association with the championship run gives the sale its “Last Dance” shorthand, but the auction record refers to the collectible’s price, not a separate sports-performance record.
What record did the sale—and did not—set?
The $12.26 million result set a reported auction record for Jordan memorabilia. It did not set the broader record for game-worn sports memorabilia sold at auction. Current reporting places that mark at $24.12 million, paid in 2024 for Babe Ruth’s 1932 World Series jersey. Those are different comparisons: one is limited to Jordan memorabilia, while the other spans sports.

What is known about the jersey’s rarity?
Joopiter’s lot story describes the jersey as the only white 1998 Finals jersey to surface and emphasizes its championship patch. Those are the auction house’s own scarcity and desirability claims, rather than independently established population data. Joopiter’s auction posting also calls it an object that embodies sporting greatness; that is promotional language, not a measurable valuation factor.
