Forbes estimated it at $94.9 billion as of September 10, 2026. That is a publisher’s estimate—not an audited personal balance sheet—and it should be read with its date because Bloomberg’s wealth is tied largely to a privately held company.
What is Michael Bloomberg’s net worth?
Forbes’ profile of Michael Bloomberg listed his real-time net worth as $94.9 billion on September 10, 2026. The figure is an estimate of assets minus liabilities, not a verified statement of how much cash he has or a public accounting of every asset and debt.
It is also a dated snapshot, not a figure that remains fixed. Bloomberg News says its Billionaires Index updates at the close of each New York trading day and that its estimates change with markets, the economy and reporting. The available reporting does not establish a current Michael Bloomberg figure from that index, so the Forbes figure should not be attributed to Bloomberg News or described as the latest estimate from every publisher.
How did Michael Bloomberg make his money?
His fortune is principally associated with Bloomberg LP, the financial data and media company he cofounded in 1981. Forbes reports that Bloomberg supplied the company’s seed funding and owns 88% of it. Bloomberg’s official biography describes him as the company’s founder and majority owner.

Because Bloomberg LP is private, the reported stake is not a publicly quoted portfolio holding with a daily market price. Forbes estimates the company’s annual revenue at nearly $15 billion, but revenue is the money a business brings in before expenses; it is not the company’s valuation, Bloomberg’s personal income or cash available to him. The public figures do not establish a precise value for his stake or the liquid portion of his wealth.
Why can published net-worth estimates differ?
- They use different dates. A real-time estimate can move as markets and other relevant information change; an annual list may use a different valuation date.
- Private-company stakes require estimation. Bloomberg LP does not have a public share price, so valuing Bloomberg’s ownership depends on estimates rather than a quoted stock-market value.
- Publishers may use different methods and information. A figure from one publisher should be compared with another only after checking its source, date, treatment of private ownership and whether it is a real-time or annual estimate.
Forbes’ $94.9 billion figure is therefore best cited with both the publisher and September 10, 2026 date. It is not an independently reproduced calculation or an official personal balance sheet.

How does philanthropy affect Bloomberg’s wealth?
Forbes reports that Bloomberg gave $3.7 billion to charitable causes in 2024 and that his lifetime giving exceeded $21.1 billion. The Associated Press also reported the $3.7 billion 2024 figure in March 2025, citing the Chronicle of Philanthropy’s Philanthropy 50. These are reported giving totals, not a basis for subtracting a fixed amount from a later net-worth estimate: they refer to different reporting periods and do not provide a full accounting of assets, liabilities or subsequent changes in value.
Bloomberg Philanthropies’ 2025–2026 annual report says the vast majority of Bloomberg LP profits support its work. Forbes reports that Bloomberg has committed to donate his Bloomberg LP stake to the organization when he dies, if not sooner. That is a stated future commitment, not evidence that the entire stake has already been transferred.
In an email to the Chronicle of Philanthropy, quoted by the AP, Bloomberg said: “I’ve never understood people who wait until they die to give away their wealth. Why deny yourself the satisfaction?”
