The company has published wallet addresses that can be checked on-chain, but a visible wallet is not the same as an insurance policy: MEXC’s public materials do not spell out binding coverage rules, claim limits, or an independent process for deciding payouts. In May 2026, MEXC said it planned to expand the fund to $500 million over two years; its Proof of Trust page still displayed a $100 million label in a July 9, 2026 snapshot.
What MEXC announced
MEXC’s June 11, 2025 announcement described a $100 million reserve intended to respond to severe security threats affecting the exchange. The company characterized it as a rapid-response alternative to conventional third-party insurance and said it would disclose wallet addresses so the public could monitor balances and transactions. It also said it intended to create a dedicated page showing balances, coverage scenarios, and active compensation cases.

This was a company-issued announcement, not the launch of a publicly documented, independently audited insurance policy. MEXC said the fund could be deployed rapidly after an incident was verified, but the announcement did not set a response-time guarantee or provide an independently documented payout case. MEXC’s original announcement and its PR Newswire version describe the launch.

MEXC’s original description points to losses tied to a serious compromise or failure of its own platform. It mentions large-scale exploits, targeted attacks, platform breaches, unforeseen vulnerabilities, and critical technical problems. The company’s later Proof of Trust page uses broader language, including “full compensation for platform issues,” but that phrase does not, by itself, establish how a claim qualifies or how much an individual user can recover.

The announcement does not provide a complete coverage schedule. In particular, it does not clearly settle whether any of the following would qualify. These are unresolved questions, not confirmed exclusions:
- A user’s email, phone, device, or account is compromised, or the user is tricked by a phishing site.
- A user sends funds to the wrong address or approves a malicious transaction.
- A loss originates in a third-party token, blockchain, bridge, smart contract, or external protocol rather than MEXC’s systems.
- Market movements cause trading losses, or a futures position is liquidated under ordinary market conditions.
- An account is frozen or restricted under compliance or risk-control rules.
- Losses exceed the reserve’s available assets, or a user is alleged to have breached MEXC’s terms or security requirements.
For these situations, users would need to consult the applicable product and account terms or obtain a written answer from MEXC. The public announcement does not specify claim deadlines, required evidence, per-user or aggregate caps, who makes the final decision, appeal rights, governing law, or whether the reserve is legally segregated from company assets. MEXC’s User Agreement incorporates other legal documents, risk-control guidelines, and platform rules; the press release is not a substitute for those terms.

How to check the published wallets
MEXC has cited a USDT address on Ethereum and a BTC address. The links below open blockchain explorers where users can inspect the addresses’ visible transactions and balances:

- BTC: 1MDVjZdX8QD212pT8Z8EMP7DuFQHKqN3mx.
On-chain visibility is useful, but it answers only a narrow question: what activity is recorded for those addresses. It does not independently establish who legally owns or controls the keys, whether assets are pledged or otherwise encumbered, or how much in valid claims the fund would need to meet. A wallet balance also changes as assets move and prices fluctuate; it does not prove that users have an enforceable right to reimbursement.

Guardian Fund vs. reserves and other protections
These mechanisms address different risks and should not be treated as interchangeable.
| Mechanism | What it is intended to show or address | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| Guardian Fund | MEXC presents it as an emergency reserve for qualifying platform-level security incidents. | Public materials do not set out full claim rules, legal guarantees, or an independently adjudicated payout process. |
| Proof of reserves | Asset and liability reporting intended to help assess whether an exchange holds assets against reported customer liabilities. | It does not, by itself, guarantee reimbursement after a hack or establish that every liability is fully backed on an ongoing basis. |
| Futures Insurance Fund | MEXC describes it as addressing certain futures liquidation shortfalls when losses exceed available margin. | It is not general protection against hacks, spot-market losses, or all futures losses. |
MEXC’s Proof of Trust page presents the Guardian Fund, reserves, and the Futures Insurance Fund as distinct security pillars. Its July 9, 2026 snapshot showed reserve ratios of 119.19% for USDT, 114.87% for USDC, 280.63% for BTC, and 113.92% for ETH. These are point-in-time figures shown by MEXC, not permanent ratios or a guarantee against future insolvency. Neither reserve reporting nor the Guardian Fund is equivalent to government-backed deposit insurance.

What changed in 2026
On May 12, 2026, MEXC announced a two-year plan to expand the Guardian Fund from $100 million to $500 million and said it would acquire 1,000 BTC as part of a move toward a USDT-and-BTC reserve structure. MEXC described USDT as the liquidity component and BTC as a longer-term reserve asset. This is a company-announced target and program, not evidence that $500 million was already funded on May 12. The expansion announcement should therefore be read as a commitment to build toward that amount.

There is a status gap in MEXC’s own public materials: the Proof of Trust page’s July 9, 2026 snapshot still labeled the Guardian Fund as $100 million and described “full compensation for platform issues.” The displayed information does not reconcile that label with the later $500 million expansion target. MEXC’s materials do not establish from that snapshot how much of the proposed increase had been completed.

What would make the protection easier to evaluate
A larger headline figure or a public address is only part of the picture. Users comparing the fund with a contractual protection mechanism would need clear answers on:
- Coverage: which events qualify, how platform-caused losses are distinguished from account compromise or third-party failures, and whether coverage is discretionary.
- Limits and process: per-user and total caps, evidence requirements, filing deadlines, decision-maker, appeal route, and expected payout timing.
- Control and segregation: who controls the wallet keys, whether the assets are legally separated from operating funds, and whether they can be pledged, lent, or rehypothecated.
- Independent checks: third-party attestation of holdings, liabilities, and claims, plus a public record of incidents, payments, and denied claims with reasons.
- Reserve composition: the value of the assets at a stated date and the effect of price changes, especially for a BTC-denominated portion.
USDT may be more stable in dollar terms than BTC, but it still carries issuer, depeg, custody, and chain risks. BTC is publicly observable and liquid, yet its dollar value can change materially. A stated dollar value therefore needs a date and a clear explanation of how the reserve is valued.
Practical steps for MEXC users
- Keep only the funds needed for near-term trading on an exchange; consider self-custody for long-term holdings if you can manage it safely.
- Enable authenticator-based two-factor authentication, use a unique password, and secure the email account tied to the exchange.
- Use withdrawal allowlists where available, verify the MEXC URL directly, and avoid login links from search ads or unsolicited messages.
- Test a new deposit or withdrawal route with a small amount before moving a larger balance, and keep independent records of balances and transactions.
- Read the current User Agreement and product-specific risk rules, and do not assume the Guardian Fund covers personal phishing, market losses, or ordinary liquidations.
These measures reduce risks that a platform reserve may not address. Centralized-exchange custody still depends on the exchange’s governance, key management, and withdrawal controls.
