Is Metro Mattress closing all its stores?
Yes. Metro Mattress planned to wind down its remaining store operations, and a mattress-retail trade-news index reported on January 21, 2026, that store-closing sales had begun following approval. The index’s notice supports that status, but does not provide a store-by-store closure schedule.
In October 2025, TheStreet reported that the company had asked the bankruptcy court for permission to liquidate. The proposal called for consolidating inventory into five or six stores for a five-week going-out-of-business sale, followed by sales of remaining merchandise and equipment. Finger Lakes Daily News reported 21 unsuccessful attempts, while TheStreet, citing Furniture Today, reported no offers from 21 contacts. When did Metro Mattress file for bankruptcy?
Metro Mattress Corp. filed a voluntary Chapter 11 case on September 4, 2024, in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of New York. The case number is 5:24-bk-30773. Chapter 11 is a bankruptcy proceeding that can allow a business to reorganize or pursue an orderly wind-down under court supervision; the filing date alone does not mean stores closed that day. How many Metro Mattress stores were there?
Published counts differ by source and timing. Finger Lakes Daily News described 70 locations across New York and four New England states. TheStreet reported 69 locations across five states when the company filed. The available accounts do not explain the one-store difference, so the figures are best understood as separate reported snapshots rather than a precise closure count.
