Facebook Marketplace can show selected listings from eBay, but the purchase still happens on eBay. Meta announced the test on January 8, 2025, initially for users in the United States, Germany and France. Since then, the companies have described a broader, ongoing partner-listing program; exposure remains selective, not a promise that every eBay listing will appear.
What the eBay–Facebook Marketplace arrangement is
It is an eBay listing displayed through Facebook Marketplace—not a new Facebook listing created by the seller. Facebook provides another place to discover the item. When a buyer chooses to purchase, Facebook sends them to eBay, where checkout and the transaction take place. eBay says the sale is handled like any other eBay transaction. eBay’s Marketplace listing help page explains the seller and transaction details.
The program has moved beyond its original test announcement. Meta later described eBay inventory as integrated into Marketplace, and eBay says some eligible listings may appear there. Neither company says that all listings or all users are included.
How the experience works for buyers
- Browse Facebook Marketplace as usual.
- Look for the partnership indicator on a listing. Meta says partner listings appear in the Marketplace feed with an icon.
- Review the item, seller information, price and shipping details shown for the listing.
- Follow the purchase link to eBay and complete checkout there.
- After buying, use eBay for order records, delivery updates, returns, customer service and any payment or delivery dispute.
That handoff matters: a listing may appear beside items posted directly to Facebook, but it does not become a local Facebook transaction. The item may require shipping rather than offer pickup, and a buyer expecting to negotiate or pay through Messenger should not assume those options apply. Meta describes the partner-listing display and checkout handoff in its Marketplace update.

Check the destination before paying
Confirm that the listing is identified as an eBay partner listing and that the checkout flow is genuinely on eBay. Do not send payment through Messenger or an unrelated site, or use gift cards or wire transfers at a seller’s request. If the item details differ from what was displayed, compare them with the underlying eBay listing before completing the purchase.
Where it is available—and what is known about eligibility
The initial test announced in January 2025 covered the United States, Germany and France. Meta later said it was expanding the test to more users in France and Germany. Those announcements do not establish that every user in those countries sees partner listings, nor do they confirm universal availability elsewhere.

Only selected listings qualify. eBay has referred to certain categories, and its April 2025 seller update said listings shown through the collaboration had shipping options. A shipping-enabled listing is not guaranteed placement: eBay says listings may be selected, while Meta’s Marketplace Partner Program terms also require compliance with Marketplace standards and eligibility rules.
- Not every eBay category or listing is necessarily included.
- The public materials do not give a complete placement formula or guarantee visibility.
- Eligibility can depend on listing requirements and platform policies; an eBay listing may meet eBay rules but still fail Marketplace requirements.
- A listing not appearing on Facebook does not, by itself, mean the eBay listing has been removed.
What eBay sellers need to know
For sellers, eBay is the source listing and Facebook is an additional discovery surface. eBay says sellers do not need to opt in, manually duplicate listings or buy Promoted Listings to participate. Its April 2025 update says the Marketplace integration adds no fee; ordinary eBay selling fees and other applicable costs still depend on the seller’s marketplace, category and circumstances. The eBay listing’s price, details and shipping settings are used for the Marketplace display. Sellers remain subject to eBay’s transaction handling and policies after a buyer is redirected. Facebook placement is not guaranteed, and eBay’s public materials do not establish that the program will increase sales.
Opting out
eBay says a seller who wants eligible listings removed from Facebook Marketplace should contact eBay. The stated removal window is within 30 days of the request. The public help page does not describe a self-service dashboard switch or promise immediate removal.

If a listing does not appear
Possible explanations include category or shipping eligibility, platform policy requirements, selection by Meta or eBay, or the buyer’s location and rollout exposure. The companies do not publish a complete placement algorithm, so there is no documented setting that guarantees inclusion.

Meta announced the arrangement against the backdrop of the European Commission’s competition decision concerning Facebook Marketplace. Meta said it disagreed with the Commission’s decision and intended to appeal, while also saying it would comply as it developed a solution. It presented partner listings as a way for third-party classified services to place inventory alongside Facebook users’ listings. That is Meta’s stated rationale, not proof that the arrangement resolves the legal dispute.

The business logic is straightforward: eBay can put eligible inventory in front of people browsing Facebook, while Meta can offer Marketplace users more listings. Buyers gain another discovery route, but checkout remains with eBay. The public announcements describe a referral and distribution arrangement; they do not disclose whether Meta receives a transaction commission or other compensation.
What this does—and does not—change
- It is not a merger or acquisition. The described arrangement places selected eBay listings in Facebook Marketplace.
- It is not Facebook checkout for eBay items. The buyer is redirected to eBay to purchase.
- It is not universal eBay syndication. Only selected, eligible listings may appear.
- It is not necessarily local pickup. eBay’s April 2025 update described listings with shipping options.
- It is not cross-listing software. Sellers do not create or synchronize a second Facebook listing through this program. Separate cross-listing tools can create listings on multiple platforms and bring their own inventory and policy-management work.
The key dates clarify why reports may call it either a test or an ongoing program: Meta announced the test on January 8, 2025; eBay published seller mechanics in April; and Meta described eBay inventory integration in a November 2025 Marketplace update. The original announcement is available in Meta’s response to the European Commission decision.
