The sighting does not, by itself, confirm that they were in a relationship. In April 2025, French Gates said she was dating someone and was happy, but she did not identify that person.
What was reported about the New York sighting?
A report published by People on October 31, 2024, said French Gates and Vaughn had been photographed holding hands in New York the previous day, including while heading to Le Bernardin. People attributed the account to Page Six reporting and photographs. French Gates’s representatives had no comment, according to the report. People via Yahoo, October 31, 2024
Did Melinda French Gates confirm she was dating Philip Vaughn?
No. In an interview reported by People on April 2, 2025, French Gates said “I am, yes” when asked whether she was dating and described herself as “very, very happy.” She declined to identify the person. The report mentioned the earlier photographs with Vaughn, but did not establish that he was the person she meant. People via Yahoo, April 2, 2025
Who is Philip Vaughn?
People described Vaughn’s LinkedIn profile as listing him as the founder and chairman of Tavour and as having worked at Microsoft from 1999 to 2008. That career information is attributed to the profile as described by People; it is not an independent verification of his employment history.

What is known about their relationship now?
The cited reports establish a public sighting in October 2024 and French Gates’s general statement in April 2025 that she was dating someone. They do not establish that Vaughn was that person, or verify French Gates’s relationship status as of October 4, 2026. Calling Vaughn her partner or boyfriend should therefore be treated as an attributed media characterization, not a confirmed fact.
