Perth influencer Meg Brackpool said a bespoke wedding dress from Leederville boutique Oxford Bridal arrived with brown marks and sought a full refund; the boutique disputed her account, saying a makeup-like mark appeared after an in-store try-on. A June 15, 2024, PerthNow report describes the competing claims, partial refunds and the boutique’s response, but does not establish how or when the mark appeared or report a court ruling.
What happened in the Oxford Bridal dispute?
According to PerthNow, Brackpool’s mother paid $3,060 for a bespoke gown, veil, overskirt and six-week rush-delivery fee. Brackpool said the rush timing was missed and that she had to contact the boutique for an update. She also said the overskirt did not fit and the veil was missing from the order.
The central disagreement is the dress’s condition. Brackpool said it arrived with brown marks and that attempts to wipe them made them worse. Oxford Bridal said a makeup-like mark appeared after Brackpool tried the dress on in the store. The report presents both accounts; it does not independently determine which is correct.
What was refunded—and what was refused?
PerthNow reported that Oxford Bridal said it had refunded $1,170 for the rush fee, overskirt and veil. The boutique refused Brackpool’s request for a full refund for the gown, saying the dress had been signed off and delivered and citing its policy against refunds for bespoke dresses. These are the business’s reported statements, not an independent determination that its position was legally correct.

What did the parties say publicly?
Brackpool told PerthNow, “I just want a refund so I can buy a new one, that’s all I want.” She also said she had been “stripped of the excitement and magic” associated with wedding preparations.
In an Instagram statement quoted by PerthNow, Oxford Bridal said the statement would be “followed by litigation against Meg.” The boutique’s owner, identified in the report only as Delphine, said: “Our goal is to make a happy client, this is destroying the business I’ve put sweat and tears into over 10 years, and it’s unacceptable.”

Was there a Consumer Protection finding or court case?
The report says Oxford Bridal stated that it had contacted Consumer Protection and complied with the agency’s recommendations. It does not quote Consumer Protection directly or describe a formal finding. Although the boutique threatened litigation in its social-media statement, PerthNow reported no evidence that a case had been filed or that a court had ruled.
What happened to the dress afterward?
PerthNow reported that Oxford Bridal said it would legally dispose of the dress if it was not collected by the end of July 2024. That was the boutique’s stated position at the time; the report does not establish whether the dress was collected or disposed of, or provide a later resolution.

Can you get a refund if a wedding dress arrives damaged?
This report alone cannot answer that legal question: it does not establish the dress’s condition on arrival, provide a direct agency finding or report a court decision. The outcome of a refund dispute depends on the evidence and applicable consumer law, not simply on a retailer’s stated bespoke-garment policy. At publication, PerthNow said Brackpool’s TikTok video had more than 530,000 views and described her Instagram audience as more than 80,000 followers. Those are figures reported by the outlet for that time, not independently verified statistics or evidence about the broader prevalence of bridal disputes.
