Medallion announced a $13.7 million Series A on December 21, 2023, co-led by Dragonfly and Lightspeed Faction. TechCrunch reported that the company had raised $22 million in total as of that announcement. The funding supported a platform concept built around artist-branded fan communities, exclusive access and content, and direct sales—not a general-purpose music-streaming service.
What Medallion announced in 2023
The $13.7 million Series A was announced on December 21, 2023, with Dragonfly and Lightspeed Faction as co-leads. TechCrunch reported the company’s cumulative fundraising at $22 million at the time; that figure is not a current funding total. TechCrunch’s funding announcement framed Medallion as a way for artists to build direct relationships with fans alongside streaming and social media.
Co-founder and CEO Matt Jones said, “While streaming has opened up access to music and social media and created new channels for direct distribution, the full potential of direct artist-to-fan connections has not been realized.” The investment announcement centered on that gap: giving artists branded online spaces and tools to offer fans experiences and products beyond a standard stream or social post.
How the artist-to-fan platform was designed to work
Artist-branded communities and access
TechCrunch’s December 2023 description presented Medallion as a customizable digital hub for album releases, tour dates, merchandise drops, digital collectibles and exclusive content. Fans could sign in with an email address or crypto wallet, receive a free digital membership collectible, post and comment, and receive communications from artists within their communities. These are features reported at that time, not confirmation that each remains available now.

In a 2024 interview, Jones described the product as a white-label web environment carrying an artist’s brand, with access to fan data and tools for offering early access to tickets or music. His comments describe the company’s approach and intended value to artists; they should not be read as a current feature list.
Paid releases, bundles and commerce
The 2024 interview described two premium product formats. Digital Deluxe paired a digital album with bonus audio, video and imagery. Jones called it “a native paid music format that seamlessly integrates artist-curated audio, video and imagery with their music.” Collectible Bundles combined physical and digital items, with posters and trading cards among the examples.

Medallion’s model included taking a percentage of sales, according to Jones. The reporting also described Shopify as supporting physical merchandise sales or fulfillment. Shopify was an integration in this commerce setup, not the operator or owner of Medallion.
Medallion FM is a later, distinct offer
Medallion’s current public positioning includes Medallion FM, which the company says launched in December 2025. Its About page describes a free fan experience for sharing listening statistics and gig histories, alongside artist access to fan-related data. The company also says royalty payouts are based on user-centric listening behavior.

What the funding news means—and what it does not establish
The announcement is evidence of investor backing for a company pursuing direct artist-to-fan relationships and commerce. It does not, by itself, establish how many fans use the service, whether artists earn more than on other platforms, or whether the 2023 platform features remain available today. The funding amount and the current Medallion FM subscription claims answer different questions: one is a dated financing event, while the other describes the company’s later public offer.
