McLaren planned just 25 Solus GTs, and the example featured in RM Sotheby’s Monterey 2026 sale has already sold. The auction house records a $2,315,000 result for serial number 20 of 25. That figure is the auction price—not the car’s original suggested retail price, which RM Sotheby’s says exceeded $3 million.
From virtual racing concept to limited-run track car
McLaren describes the Solus GT as a radical concept originally designed for virtual racing and later offered as a special commission for 25 customers. RM Sotheby’s says the concept first appeared in 2017 in Gran Turismo Sport; that specific origin account comes from the auction listing.
The production car retains the concept’s striking single-seat layout. McLaren describes a sliding glass canopy as the only cabin access, shrouded wheel pods, and bodywork shaped through aerodynamic testing. McLaren Automotive CEO Michael Leiters, in a quote carried by McLaren Chicago’s model guide, called it “the realization of a radical McLaren concept vehicle originally created only for the world of virtual racing…it epitomizes the art of the possible.”
What McLaren says the Solus GT can do
McLaren’s official product page describes a naturally aspirated 5.2-litre V10 that revs beyond 10,000 rpm. Its published figures are manufacturer specifications, not independently verified test results.

RM Sotheby’s also describes a seven-speed sequential gearbox with straight-cut racing gears and a carbon-fibre clutch, with the engine structurally mounted to the carbon-fibre monocoque.
The Monterey auction result: $2.315 million, not the MSRP
RM Sotheby’s identifies the 2025 car as chassis SBMBC8AT7PW000020, serial 20 of 25, offered from The Driver’s Philosophy Collection. The listing records it as sold for $2,315,000 USD at the Monterey 2026 auction. It describes exposed carbon fibre and green accents, and says extensive options brought this example’s suggested retail price above $3 million. The MSRP is not the sale result or a separate auction valuation.

No: McLaren says the Solus GT does not adhere to road or racing regulations. For this specific US auction example, RM Sotheby’s states that it was on a temporary import bond and, under the EPA Racing Vehicle Exclusion, could not be registered, licensed for use on, or operated on public roads or highways. The listing describes US-specific terms, so they should not be treated as a universal legal ruling for every country.
