For a US-market new-price benchmark, Kelley Blue Book lists the 2023 Spider’s starting price at $326,500. Its page also displayed a $279,000 valuation, but that is a dated estimate—not proof that every car has depreciated by the same amount or that $279,000 is today’s typical sale price. Used-car listings and third-party market estimates must be read according to what they measure: asking prices, valuations and completed sales are not interchangeable.
What did a McLaren 720S Spider cost when new?
Kelley Blue Book’s 2023 McLaren 720S page gives the 720S Spider Convertible 2D an original starting price of $326,500. That is a US-dollar starting-price benchmark, not necessarily the original window sticker or delivered cost of a particular car. Options, taxes, title and registration charges, and transportation fees can affect what a buyer paid. The underlying historical McLaren price-list evidence available here is for the 720S coupe, not the Spider, so it should not be used to calculate a Spider’s original optioned price.
For an individual car, the original window sticker is the best record of its factory options and stated price. A starting MSRP is useful for comparison, but it does not establish what a specific buyer paid after options and fees.
What does the available valuation say about depreciation?
Kelley Blue Book displayed a $279,000 valuation for the 2023 720S Spider, against the page’s $326,500 starting-price figure. The difference is $47,500, or about 14.5% of that starting price. This is only a comparison between the two figures on the KBB page; it is not a vehicle-specific depreciation calculation, a guaranteed resale value, or a measure of every 720S Spider’s loss from its original sticker.

KBB stated that the displayed value was valid through September 11, 2026. At the October 8, 2026 date of this article, it is a historical benchmark rather than a live quote. KBB also notes that an individual used vehicle’s fair purchase price can vary with mileage, condition, location and other factors. The car’s actual original equipment and transaction history matter too, so compare the valuation with the specific vehicle rather than applying the percentage mechanically.
What is the average used-market price?
There is no sufficiently transparent, authoritative national transaction dataset established here to support one verified average price for US 720S Spider sales. Marque’s US Spider market page reported a $292,500 average sale price and a $297,000 median when accessed October 8, 2026. Those are Marque estimates; the available information does not establish a sufficiently clear sample or calculation method to treat them as a verified market-wide average or median.

- Brand new box
- Real rubber tires.
- Detailed interior, exterior.
- Die-cast metal body and chassis,
- Dimensions approximately L-2.75 inches long.
That distinction matters: an advertised dealer price is an asking price, a valuation provider’s number is an estimate, and a completed-sale price records a transaction. Use each only for the question it answers. A set of current listings can show what sellers are asking, but it cannot by itself establish what buyers paid or produce a reliable national transaction average.

How to judge what to pay for a specific car
- Get the exact vehicle details. Record model year, mileage, specification, location, condition, service history and warranty status.
- Identify what each comparison price represents. Keep dealer asking prices separate from valuation estimates and documented sale prices; do not average unlike figures together.
- Compare like with like. Use examples with similar year, mileage, condition, equipment and seller context. Treat a broad market estimate as context, not a quote for the car in front of you.
- Verify the vehicle before negotiating. Request provenance and service records, arrange an appropriate inspection, and get the retailer to confirm any warranty in writing.
- Set a price based on the evidence for that car. Use its condition, history, specification and the quality of comparable price data—not the KBB starting-price comparison alone—to decide whether the asking price is acceptable.
