Who founded MayaEats?
TechBullion identified Viggnesh Kandasamy as MayaEats’ co-founder and CTO, and Vijayaraj Gopinath as its co-founder and CEO. In the interview, the founders traced the idea to their work on OOMS, an online order management system, and conversations with restaurant owners during the pandemic. They said they visited at least 1,000 restaurants in the South Bay area while selling OOMS in March 2020; that figure is their account, not an independently verified count.
Gopinath described the approach this way: “When a restaurant partners with MayaEats, we work closely with the restaurant and learn about its operations, resources, and missing potential.”
How did MayaEats’ ghost-kitchen model work?
The founders said MayaEats studied a partner restaurant’s operations, kitchen resources, and local customers, then developed a digital menu and recipes suited to that capacity. MayaEats handled launch logistics; the restaurant partner prepared the food. In this arrangement, the new brand operated through an existing restaurant rather than requiring a separate conventional location.

The founders presented the model as a way for restaurants to put underused kitchen capacity and staff to work on delivery-focused concepts. They said they preferred creating distinctive menus rather than duplicating common virtual-brand categories such as wings and burgers. The Vegan Lasagna Garden, which they described as addressing a perceived shortage of dedicated vegan options, was one example.
How did the model differ from a rented ghost kitchen?
“Ghost kitchen” can describe several arrangements, and the interview offers the founders’ distinction rather than a comprehensive industry taxonomy. MayaEats emphasized access to capacity inside partner restaurants. A rented ghost-kitchen facility, by contrast, is a separate kitchen space used for delivery-focused food preparation. The practical differences depend on who owns or accesses the kitchen, who cooks, who creates the menu, how orders reach customers, and who handles launch and ongoing operations.

The founders also described OneStopKitchen as a related infrastructure and fulfillment concept. They said existing restaurants or food trucks could act as fulfillment centers, allowing brands to expand without opening conventional locations and enabling customers to combine cuisines in one order. These were descriptions of the concept and its intended expansion, not proof of its present availability. Y Combinator’s company profile currently lists OneStopKitchen as inactive: Y Combinator’s OneStopKitchen profile. That listing does not establish MayaEats’ status.
