Yes. In May 2024, Natural Sourcing International voluntarily recalled one lot of Great Value Organic Black Chia Seeds because it could contain Salmonella. The recall applied to specific 32 oz pouches—not every chia seed product or every Great Value chia seed package. Check the lot code and other identifiers below before deciding whether your pouch is affected.
Which chia seeds were recalled?
The affected product was Great Value Organic Black Chia Seeds in a 32 oz pouch, distributed to Walmart for nationwide retail sale. The FDA-hosted notice identifies this single lot:
- Lot code: 24095 C018
- Expiration date: October 30, 2026
- UPC: 078742300665
The lot code is printed on the bottom of the pouch’s back panel. The FDA posted Natural Sourcing International’s announcement on May 13, 2024; the company announcement is dated May 10. Read the FDA-hosted recall notice. A contemporaneous Michigan agriculture bulletin also reproduces the key product details.
How can you tell if your pouch is affected?
Compare the package details with the full set of identifiers in the notice. The product name or Great Value branding alone does not establish that a pouch belongs to the recalled lot.

If the identifiers do not match the recalled lot, this May 2024 notice does not identify your pouch as affected. This article describes that notice; it does not establish the current administrative status of the recall. The FDA says its recall page may not include all recalls and that notices remain there for three years before archival; older notices may be in its recall archive.
What should you do with a matching pouch?
Natural Sourcing International instructed consumers to throw away products subject to the recall. The company said it would provide replacement product upon proof of purchase. For replacement details, the notice lists:

The recall was prompted by the potential presence of Salmonella. The notice says healthy people infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea—which may be bloody—nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. It also warns that young children, frail or elderly people, and people with weakened immune systems can face serious infection. Exposure does not mean that every person will become ill.
