Max’s reported $1 monthly increase for ad-free subscriptions took effect June 4, 2024. At that time, the monthly Ad-Free plan went from $15.99 to $16.99, and Ultimate Ad-Free went from $19.99 to $20.99. Those are historical U.S. prices, not current rates: Max had another U.S. price increase in 2025.
Which Max plans rose by $1 a month?
The 2024 change covered the two monthly ad-free tiers reported at the time. It did not mean that every Max plan or billing period increased by exactly $1.

The figures are from Yahoo Entertainment’s report on the 2024 increase: “Max Raises Price for Ad-Free Subscriber Tier.”
Did annual Max plans also go up by $1?
No. The annual plans had separate price changes, so the $1 figure applies only to the monthly increases described above. The 2023 launch price for the standard Ad-Free tier was $15.99 per month or $149.99 per year, according to Warner Bros. Discovery’s Max launch announcement. That launch figure is historical, not a current annual-price quote.

Are those Max prices current?
No. A later report documents another U.S. price increase in 2025, so the 2024 figures should not be used to estimate a current bill. MacRumors’ 2025 report covers that subsequent change.
Max’s official plan and subscription help page describes Basic with Ads, Standard, and Premium, including differences in simultaneous streams, resolution, and offline downloads. Its displayed prices may lag later increases; check your account and latest billing notice for the amount that applies to you.

How to check who bills your Max subscription
Your billing provider can affect which plan changes are available and where you need to manage the subscription. Max supports subscriptions billed directly by Max as well as through third parties.
- Open your Max account’s subscription settings and review the plan and billing information.
- Check the latest billing notice or charge for the provider name if the account shows that a third party handles billing.
- Use that provider’s account or subscription settings to review charges or make plan changes when it, rather than Max, bills you.
Max’s official help page explains that plan changes depend on who bills the subscription.
