Forbes estimated Max Levchin’s net worth at $2 billion as of September 10, 2026. That is a dated third-party estimate, not an audited balance sheet or a precise figure for October 8, 2026. Levchin’s Affirm stake is a major publicly visible part of the picture, but public filings do not disclose all of his assets, liabilities, taxes, or other holdings.

What the $2 billion estimate means

Forbes labels the figure “Real Time Net Worth,” but its displayed snapshot is dated September 10, 2026. Forbes’ profile page was last updated July 15, 2026. The estimate should therefore be read with its stated date rather than treated as a live, verified total. Forbes’ Max Levchin profile

A public net-worth estimate is not the same as a personal financial statement. Affirm shares can be valued using market data, but the complete calculation would also require information about private holdings, debts, taxes, and other assets that is not all available in public filings.

How Affirm ownership helps explain his wealth

Affirm’s 2025 proxy statement reported that Levchin beneficially owned 3,401,962 Class A shares and 26,485,472 Class B shares as of September 30, 2025. The proxy attributed 44.41% of total voting power to him. These are historical figures, not a current 2026 share count. The filing’s beneficial-ownership calculation follows SEC rules and discusses options, an LLC, and a trust in explaining what it includes. Affirm’s 2025 proxy statement

That distinction matters because voting power and economic value are not interchangeable. The reported voting percentage describes influence under Affirm’s share structure; it does not mean Levchin owns that percentage of the company’s market value in ordinary, freely available cash.

Why later option activity changes the picture

Affirm’s filings show activity after the 2025 ownership snapshot. A January 2026 Form 4 reported that 4,000,000 Value Creation Award options had been earned and vested as of January 5, 2026. On that date, Levchin exercised 666,666 options at $49 and sold 666,666 shares. Affirm’s January 2026 Form 4

Affirm’s quarterly report for the period ended March 31, 2026, later said 8,500,000 unvested Value Creation Award shares had expired and 2,000,002 options remained vested and exercisable. These award figures describe compensation instruments and transactions, not cash already received or a complete measure of wealth. Affirm’s quarterly report for March 31, 2026

His career beyond Affirm

Affirm’s official biography identifies Levchin as the company’s founder and CEO, a cofounder and chair of Glow, an original PayPal cofounder and former CTO, the founder and former CEO of Slide, and someone who helped create Yelp. Those roles help explain his entrepreneurial background, but they do not establish the present value of any stake in a private, acquired, or no-longer-held company. Affirm’s biography of Max Levchin

Why salary and awards are not net worth

Affirm reported total fiscal 2025 compensation of $538,307 for Levchin in its proxy statement. Of that amount, $491,973 was for personal security services, which the company treated as a business expense rather than a personal benefit. Annual compensation is a one-year flow; it does not measure accumulated assets minus liabilities. Likewise, options have exercise prices and vesting conditions, and their stated value is not automatically realized wealth. Affirm’s 2025 proxy statement

What can—and cannot—be concluded

  • Forbes’ located estimate was $2 billion on September 10, 2026; it is not an audited personal balance sheet.
  • Affirm’s proxy provides a dated ownership and voting-power snapshot, while later filings document subsequent option and share activity.
  • The available disclosures do not establish Levchin’s exact current net worth because they do not reveal his full assets and liabilities.
