Marvell (NASDAQ: MRVL) gives investors exposure to data-center and communications semiconductors, with recent growth increasingly tied to AI infrastructure. The central questions are whether that demand continues, how much revenue depends on a small group of customers, and whether Marvell can deliver products profitably through a complex supply chain.

What does Marvell Technology do?

Marvell Technology, Inc. designs and sells integrated circuits for data infrastructure, from data-center systems to network-edge applications. Its products use system-on-chip architectures and analog, mixed-signal, and digital signal-processing capabilities. The company reports its business in two broad end-market categories: data center, and communications and other.

Marvell is fabless: it designs chips but relies on outside partners for manufacturing, assembly, testing, and packaging. That model avoids owning its own chip factories, but it makes product availability and costs partly dependent on those partners and their supply chains. These descriptions come from Marvell’s 2026 Form 10-K and August 2026 Form 10-Q.

What do Marvell’s recent results show?

Marvell’s second quarter of fiscal 2027 ended August 1, 2026. The figures below are company-reported results from its August 27, 2026 earnings release, except where identified as fiscal 2026 figures from the company’s proxy statement or Form 10-Q.

Measure Period Reported figure How to read it
Revenue Q2 fiscal 2027 $2.739 billion Reported revenue for the quarter.
Revenue growth Q2 fiscal 2027, year over year 37% Marvell attributed the increase primarily to data-center sales.
Data-center revenue growth Q2 fiscal 2027, year over year 46% The company cited strong AI-related demand as a benefit.
Revenue mix Q2 fiscal 2027 Data center: 79%; communications and other: 21% Shares of total quarterly revenue, not a full-year mix.
Gross margin Q2 fiscal 2027 GAAP: 53.1%; non-GAAP: 58.9% Different accounting measures; do not compare them as though they were the same basis.
Diluted earnings per share Q2 fiscal 2027 GAAP: $0.33; non-GAAP: $0.94 Non-GAAP results exclude items defined by the company; GAAP and non-GAAP figures are not interchangeable.
Data-center share of revenue Fiscal 2026 Approximately three-quarters; more than $6 billion in data-center revenue Historical full-year figures in Marvell’s 2026 proxy statement, distinct from the Q2 fiscal 2027 mix above.

Reported growth and the high data-center mix indicate that this business was a major driver of the quarter. They do not establish that the same growth rate, mix, or margins will continue.

What could drive further growth?

Marvell’s near-term growth case depends substantially on continued investment in data-center infrastructure, including equipment used to move data and custom silicon designed for particular customers. In its 2026 proxy statement, the company identified optical interconnect and custom silicon as important data-center areas. Those are company descriptions of its opportunity, not a guarantee that projects will proceed or produce a particular level of revenue.

In the August 27, 2026 earnings release, CEO Matt Murphy said: “AI-related bookings remain exceptionally robust, and we expect our revenue growth to accelerate further through the remainder of fiscal 2027.” This is management’s outlook. The same release gave Q3 fiscal 2027 revenue guidance of $3.150 billion, plus or minus 5%; it is a forecast, not a reported result.

What risks could affect Marvell stock?

Customer concentration

Marvell reported in its 2026 Form 10-Q that its ten largest customers, including distributors and direct customers, accounted for 82% of fiscal 2026 revenue. Two customers each represented at least 10%. If a major customer cuts orders, changes suppliers, faces financial trouble, or loses ground in its market, Marvell could be materially affected.

AI investment and data-center deployment timing

Marvell’s 2026 Form 10-Q says demand depends in part on the timing and scale of customers’ AI infrastructure deployments. Projects can be delayed by supply constraints or by the time needed to secure power, water, permits, and local approval. The company also warns that AI-related capital spending may not be sustainable and that customers could reduce or redirect investment.

Customer-designed chips and changing technology

Large cloud providers and other enterprises may develop more chips internally, reducing their need for outside suppliers. Marvell also warns that AI-assisted design could accelerate competitors, alter product economics, or shorten product life cycles. As a result, today’s demand for external silicon does not by itself establish long-term customer dependence.

Manufacturing and supply-chain dependence

Because Marvell does not manufacture its own chips, shortages or delays involving advanced wafers, substrates, testing capacity, or other components can limit shipments, extend lead times, and raise costs. The company identifies these dependencies in its 2026 Form 10-Q.

Competition, pricing, and execution

Marvell’s 2026 Form 10-K describes intense competition, rapid technological change, and pricing pressure. New products must be developed and introduced on time and accepted by customers. Delays, weaker demand, pricing concessions, or a less favorable product mix can affect revenue and margins.

Forecasts can differ from results

Management guidance is forward-looking and may not be achieved. Investors can compare reported results with the company’s prior guidance in subsequent earnings releases and filings rather than treating an outlook as a commitment.

What should investors monitor?

For a company whose recent growth is concentrated in data center, quarterly revenue alone offers an incomplete picture. Useful checks include:

  • Data-center sales and mix: Track both the amount of revenue and its share of the total, noting the reporting period.
  • Customer concentration: Watch for changes in reliance on the largest customers and whether a small number of buyers remain especially important.
  • Margins and product mix: Compare GAAP measures with GAAP and non-GAAP measures with non-GAAP; changes can reflect costs, pricing, or which products are selling.
  • Customer design wins and insourcing: Look for evidence that customers are adopting Marvell’s products, while also monitoring whether they are developing more chips internally.
  • Supply and delivery: Note whether manufacturing or component constraints affect lead times, costs, or the ability to ship.
  • Guidance versus reported results: Assess what management projected against what the company later reported, keeping each forecast tied to its original date.

The company filings and earnings release establish reported results and management’s disclosed risks, but they do not establish a fair value or appropriate entry price for MRVL. A valuation judgment would require a separate, dated analysis of the share price, expected cash flows, and assumptions about future growth and risk.
