MARVEL SNAP returned online in the United States after a brief interruption in January 2025. At the time, its developer, Second Dinner, said it was working to bring more services in-house and partner with a new publisher. In a 2026 retrospective, the studio said it took on publishing the game itself—a later development that updates the initial publisher-search announcement.
What happened to MARVEL SNAP during the TikTok-related U.S. action?
MARVEL SNAP went offline briefly in the United States in January 2025 and then returned. Game Developer reported on January 21 that the game was back online and that Second Dinner was seeking a different publishing arrangement. Nuverse was the publisher at the time; the report described it as a ByteDance subsidiary.
The interruption happened alongside the TikTok-related U.S. action, which also affected services connected to ByteDance. That context helps explain why the game was caught up in the disruption, but it does not mean MARVEL SNAP and TikTok had identical legal status or were affected in precisely the same way. Second Dinner’s official return notice described the incident as a service disruption.
Is MARVEL SNAP back online?
Yes. The January 2025 interruption ended, and the game returned online in the United States. Second Dinner’s notice also said it would provide digital make-good rewards to affected players. It described separate reward packages for affected U.S.-based players and other existing players; these were compensation for that historical disruption, not current offers.

Who published the game, and what changed?
The publishing story developed in stages. The January 2025 announcement described a search for a new partner; Second Dinner’s later account says the studio took on publishing itself. A contemporary report also named Skystone, but the sources describe the arrangement at different points in time and do not establish the exact legal structure of every publishing function.

What does self-publishing mean in this case?
Second Dinner’s 2026 retrospective describes publishing as work that includes marketing, distribution, customer support, and the game’s web shop. The studio said it had to create teams and systems to handle those responsibilities, and characterized the change this way: “we had to take on the great responsibility of publishing the game ourselves.”

That retrospective is the clearest update to the original headline. The initial plan to find a new publisher was the studio’s stated response in January 2025; it should not be presented as the final outcome after the studio’s later description of taking on publishing.

For players, the immediate issue was access to an online game, followed by its return and historical make-good rewards. The episode also showed how a publisher or service arrangement can matter to a digital game’s availability. It does not, by itself, establish that an outage will recur, how many players were affected, or how much revenue was lost. The cited coverage and studio material do not provide authoritative figures for outage duration, affected-player count, or lost revenue.

Second Dinner’s 2026 retrospective also gives some context for the game’s ongoing operation: the studio said it added around 100 new cards in 2025 and described a cadence of six rotating limited-time game modes. Those are figures about the game’s content and mode schedule, not measures of the January disruption.
