Marshmallow is a UK insurance and financial-services company founded to serve people moving to the UK. TechCrunch reported on April 14, 2025, that it raised $90 million at a valuation just above $2 billion; Marshmallow’s official blog also displays a June 1, 2026 announcement of a $90 million Series C at a similar valuation. The two dates and accounts do not establish whether these were the same transaction, so they should be treated separately.

What Marshmallow does

Marshmallow was founded in 2017 by twins Alexander and Oliver Kent-Braham and David Goate. The company says its initial goal was to make car insurance fairer for people moving to the UK. It says it became a licensed insurance carrier in 2021. Marshmallow’s company history describes those milestones.

Its offering has since expanded beyond its original focus. The company currently lists car insurance, home insurance, van insurance, telematics insurance through Marshmallow Move, and car finance. Its homepage positions some cover for people new to the UK and says it offers claims support. What the $90 million announcements say—and why the dates matter

There are two dated accounts of a $90 million raise at a valuation just over $2 billion:

Source and date What it reports
TechCrunch, April 14, 2025 Marshmallow raised $90 million at a valuation just over $2 billion. CEO Oliver Kent-Braham described the round as roughly split 50–50 between equity and debt. TechCrunch’s report

The sources do not resolve whether the 2026 post is an update or republication, a later round, or a chronology issue. It would therefore be misleading to combine the two accounts as a single confirmed event or to describe them as separate rounds with certainty.

What the reported scale figures mean

Marshmallow’s June 2026 post says it has insured more than one million drivers and has a $500 million turnover run rate. TechCrunch’s April 2025 report likewise cited one million insured drivers and a $500 million profitable annual revenue run rate. These are company or reported run-rate figures, not audited annual revenue figures established by the cited sources. The timing difference also matters: each claim belongs to its own dated account.

Marshmallow’s homepage says 79% of its customers are new to the UK, based on active Marshmallow car policyholders from 2018–2024. That is a company-reported figure for its own policyholders, not a measure of the broader UK insurance market. Marshmallow’s homepage

What this could mean for people new to the UK

The company’s stated mission is to make insurance and related services more accessible to newcomers. In its June 2026 announcement, Co-CEO and Co-Founder Oliver Kent-Braham said the ambition was to become a “one-stop-financial-shop for newcomers” so moving to and living in another country feels easier. That describes the company’s goal; the cited sources do not quantify how much Marshmallow reduces insurance barriers for migrants.

For a prospective customer, the funding announcement is not a substitute for comparing policies. Assess whether you are eligible, what the cover includes and excludes, the excess, and the total premium against other available quotes. The sources cited here do not provide comparable policy terms or prices, so they cannot establish that Marshmallow is cheaper or offers better cover than alternatives.

How Marshmallow’s business has broadened

The company history lists car finance as a 2025 launch and home insurance as a 2026 launch, alongside its established insurance focus. The later announcement says the funding is intended to support further product and international expansion, but it does not establish which new products or markets will launch next.
