Indian equities rebounded on Monday, October 5, 2026: the Nifty 50 rose 0.60% to 22,555.75 and the Sensex gained 0.66% to 72,382.47. Within the NIFTY 50, ITC and BSE were the session’s biggest reported gainers, while HCL Technologies and Max Healthcare led the declines. These are NIFTY 50 rankings; a verified Sensex-only top-movers list is not available in the cited reports.

How the benchmarks closed

Index Close Change Percentage change
Nifty 50 22,555.75 +133.80 points +0.60%
Sensex 72,382.47 +472.77 points +0.66%

The Economic Times reported these closing figures for October 5, 2026, and Upstox reported matching benchmark closes. The gains followed a prolonged losing run. The reports associated the rebound with softer-than-expected US jobs data, easing crude oil and positive Asian-market cues; those are reported explanations, not proof that any one factor caused the rise. Broader market and sector picture

The benchmark rise did not mean that most NSE-listed stocks advanced: the Economic Times reported 1,846 advances, 1,745 declines and 115 unchanged. The Nifty Midcap 100 rose 0.67% and the Nifty Smallcap 100 gained 0.47%. Sector performance diverged: Nifty FMCG and Nifty Consumer Durables rose around 2% each, while Nifty Healthcare and Nifty Pharma fell nearly 1% each. The Economic Times market wrap.

What the technical commentary said

Hariselvan Radhakrishnan, founder and CEO of HST Wealth, told the Economic Times that the Nifty tested a broken weekly 200-day simple moving average zone at 22,580–22,600 but closed below it. He described 22,800 as a possible recovery level if the index sustained a move above that band, and 22,400 as immediate support if it was rejected. These were conditional market views, not guaranteed outcomes or investment advice. The Economic Times.

His cited rebound scenario also depended on a Nifty close above 22,600, broader participation and Bank Nifty above 55,175. The report listed renewed crude strength and a hawkish RBI outcome as risks to that scenario. These levels relate to the October 5, 2026 commentary and are not current market levels.

Why there is no Sensex-only movers table here

The Economic Times page’s accessible version provides headings for Sensex-specific mover tables, but the table contents are embedded in images. The other cited reports corroborate NIFTY 50 movers rather than a complete Sensex-only ranking. For that reason, the figures above are identified strictly as NIFTY 50 data rather than being presented as a Sensex list.
