The report described a low-cost outlet built around Sunlong’s supply-chain capabilities and automated noodle preparation, alongside Sun’s ambitions for suburban outlets, smaller franchises and noodle vending machines. Those were plans reported in June 2024; available information does not establish whether the outlet is still open or whether expansion followed.
What was Hello Spice?
Hello Spice was a prepared-meal outlet launched at Market City in Canning Vale in early May 2024, according to PerthNow’s June 2024 report. The report presented it as a value-focused food concept backed by Sunlong Fresh Foods, a wholesale and catering business.
The reported menu included steamed chicken and rice with dumplings, noodle bowls with braised pork and vegetables, and a small lunchtime bowl of spicy Sichuan noodles. PerthNow said meal examples cost less than AUD 10 and the small spicy noodle bowl less than AUD 6. These are prices reported in June 2024, not verified current menu prices.
How Sunlong Fresh Foods connects to the concept
PerthNow reported that Mark Sun, also identified as Sun Weimin, came to Western Australia to study at Curtin in 1989 and later began hospitality work preparing fresh ingredients for the Windsor Hotel in South Perth. The paper described that home-based work as a precursor to Sunlong Fresh Foods.

Sunlong’s own company profile says its trading-as business began in 1993 in Cannington, supplying hospitality customers with wholesale fruit and vegetables and hand- and machine-processed produce. The company says it moved to purpose-built food-processing and warehouse premises in Canning Vale in 2022. Its profile lists 12 cool rooms, two freezer rooms and two blast chillers; these are company-published facility details, not independently verified figures.
The supply operation was central to Sun’s explanation of Hello Spice’s low prices. PerthNow reported that a machine made fresh noodles and a Chinese-built boiler cooked and served them. Sun attributed affordability to technology and Sunlong’s buying power and supply chains. Consulting chef Vincent Lim described the company’s ingredient purchasing as “by the palette.”

These reported numbers give a sense of the outlet’s proposed low-cost model, but they do not establish profitability, customer demand over time or the economics of a larger chain. PerthNow said the concept was not focused on making a profit and quoted Lim saying the first outlet was covering costs. Those were attributed statements, not audited financial results.
What Sun meant by a Hello Spice “empire”
PerthNow quoted Sun describing his goal: “In every suburb, I want there to be a McDonald’s, a KFC and a Hello Spice.” The report also described plans for smaller franchises and noodle vending machines. Sun said: “I want to give back and support Australians.”

The fast-food comparison was an expression of ambition, not evidence that Hello Spice matched the established chains in scale or performance. The report did not provide like-for-like prices, customer numbers, profitability data or chain comparisons. It described Hello Spice’s value positioning, menu, automated noodle preparation and proposed expansion model, but did not document subsequent rollout.

The available information establishes the reported opening at Market City in early May 2024 and the plans discussed that June. It does not establish whether the outlet remains open, whether more branches launched or whether noodle vending machines entered service. Treat the location, menu, prices and expansion ideas as a June 2024 snapshot rather than current business information.
