Its technology subsidiary, Mari Technologies, owns 60% of Sky47, the project company developing a planned 5MW Tier-III data centre at Capital Smart City near Islamabad. Sky47 announced a cloud and AI infrastructure platform there in January 2026, but public documents available as of August 18, 2026 do not independently prove that the full planned 5MW facility has been commissioned, certified, or filled with live customer workloads.
What launched near Islamabad in 2026?
On January 17, 2026, Business Recorder reported that Sky47, through Mari Technologies, had launched its first cloud and AI infrastructure platform in the “Silicon Valley” area of Capital Smart City near Islamabad. Sky47 described the platform as secure, scalable and sovereign, aimed at enterprises, government institutions and innovators that want mission-critical workloads hosted in Pakistan.
A platform launch demonstrates commercial activity, but it is not the same as proof that every planned building, power train, cooling system and capacity phase is complete. It could represent an initial deployment or service layer operating before the entire project reaches its intended scale.
Who owns the project?
The corporate chain matters when describing the facility:

- Mari Energies Limited is the parent company.
- Mari Technologies Limited is wholly owned by Mari Energies.
- Sky47 Limited is 60% owned by Mari Technologies; other sponsors hold the balance.
Sky47 is therefore the project company implementing the Islamabad and Karachi data-centre programme. Calling the site a “Mari Energies data centre” without explaining Sky47 overstates the parent company’s direct ownership and operating role. The ownership and project structure are described in the Pakistan Stock Exchange filing.
The two-site plan
| Site | Location | Stated capacity | Stated commercial-operation target |
|---|---|---|---|
| Islamabad | Capital Smart City, Islamabad region | 5MW | March 31, 2026 |
| Karachi | Near Port Qasim | 5MW | September 30, 2026 |
The company’s disclosures describe two Tier-III data centres, giving a planned programme of 10MW across both sites. The filing also identifies January 1, 2025 as the project start date and June 30, 2026 as an overall completion target. A September 27, 2025 Business Recorder report said construction of the Islamabad facility was underway and that completion was expected early the following year. That is a reported construction update, not independent confirmation of final commissioning.
What does “5MW” actually measure?
The public disclosures state “5MW” but do not clearly say whether that means total utility capacity, critical facility power, planned ultimate capacity or usable IT load. Those measures are not interchangeable. A data centre’s incoming electrical capacity must also support cooling, power conversion, lighting and other building systems; only part may be available to servers.
Until Sky47 publishes an engineering definition, customers should treat 5MW as a stated project-capacity figure rather than 5MW of immediately available computing power. The same caution applies to the two-site total of 10MW.
What Tier III tells customers—and what it does not
Tier III generally means concurrently maintainable infrastructure: planned maintenance can occur without shutting down critical IT services. The primary corporate filing describes the centres as Tier III or intended for Tier-III certification. It does not, in the material available here, provide a current certificate, issuing body, audit date or confirmation that the designation applies to a fully operational facility.

Before signing, a customer should ask:
- Is the certification for the design, the constructed facility or operations?
- Which organisation issued it, and when?
- Does it cover the whole site or only a phase?
- What redundancy exists for utility power, generators, cooling, storage and network paths?
- What uptime commitment and service credits appear in the contract?
Tier III should not be upgraded to Tier IV. Some secondary coverage uses broader Tier III/IV language, but the primary filing supports Tier III.
Financing: what the filings actually describe
The EOGM material separates financing into Islamabad and Karachi tranches. It refers to syndicated term-finance facilities, letters of credit and working-capital support, including a working-capital facility of up to PKR 3.5 billion. It also references a term-finance tranche of PKR 17.5 billion and promoter equity or margin support of up to PKR 12.5 billion in the relevant financing arrangement, along with a Mari Energies corporate guarantee for Sky47 facilities.
These are different financial exposures. A debt limit, letter-of-credit limit, working-capital line, equity contribution and parent guarantee cannot be added together and described as “Mari’s investment” without the filing’s accounting treatment. Investors should consult the original PSX document and the Mari Energies EOGM document for the precise facility and guarantee terms. The filing gives June 2029 as an expected return-on-investment date.
Why domestic cloud and AI capacity matters
If delivered as planned, a Pakistan-based facility could reduce network latency for local users, provide an alternative location for data subject to residency requirements, and give public bodies and regulated businesses another hosting option. It could also support local systems integrators, connectivity providers, cooling contractors, cybersecurity firms and managed-service companies.
Those are potential benefits, not measured outcomes. The available announcements do not publish customer numbers, delivered capacity, uptime, power-usage effectiveness or workload-performance results.

What “sovereign cloud” should mean in practice
“Sovereign” is not a universal certification. Depending on the contract, it may mean that data remains in Pakistan, infrastructure and operations are locally controlled, access is governed by Pakistani law, or customers retain stronger control over encryption keys and administrators.
Sky47’s announcement uses the term but does not publish a complete legal and technical framework. Government, banking, health, defence and other regulated customers should obtain written evidence covering data location, administrator access, subcontractors, encryption and key management, incident reporting, retention, audit rights and cross-border support.
Who could use the platform?
Sky47 has identified enterprises, government institutions and innovators as intended users. Likely workloads include locally hosted business applications, private-cloud deployments, backup and disaster recovery, analytics and AI services. These remain target markets unless Sky47 publishes named customers or a service catalogue.
Questions for enterprise buyers
- What local carriers and private-connectivity options are available?
- What backup site and disaster-recovery objectives are offered?
- Are encryption keys customer-controlled?
- Can workloads interoperate with AWS, Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud?
- What migration, exit and data-portability assistance is included?
- Are GPUs available, and are they offered for training, inference or both?
Local facility versus hyperscale cloud
| Decision factor | Sky47/Mari project | Global hyperscalers |
|---|---|---|
| Pakistan data location | Potential local-hosting advantage; contractual evidence still required | Depends on the selected region and service |
| Service breadth | Public catalogue and maturity not yet established | Broad, mature managed-service portfolios |
| Local support and procurement | Potentially closer local engagement | Usually delivered through global and partner channels |
| AI capacity | GPU models, rack density and pricing not publicly stated | GPU and AI options vary by region and availability |
| Price | No verified public price list | Usage-based pricing; total cost depends on services, transfer, support and commitments |
Sky47 should not be assumed cheaper. A fair comparison must match redundancy, bandwidth, backup, support, managed services and service-level commitments. Official reference points include AWS Pricing, Azure Pricing and Google Cloud Pricing. Sky47 pricing and availability should be confirmed directly with the provider.

- Final commissioning of the complete Islamabad 5MW build-out.
- Whether the stated 5MW is facility power or usable IT load.
- Current Tier-III certificate, issuer, scope and audit date.
- Live capacity, uptime history, PUE and network-carrier diversity.
- Named customers, production workload performance and service-level credits.
- GPU models, cooling design and AI reservation or on-demand pricing.
- Public service catalogue, contract terms and transparent price list.
The January launch is the strongest public indication that the Islamabad venture progressed beyond a proposal. It does not, by itself, establish every item above.

Bottom line for investors and buyers
Mari Energies’ move into data centres is a credible technology-diversification project, implemented through Mari Technologies and majority-owned Sky47. The Islamabad site had a stated March 31, 2026 commercial-operation target and a cloud/AI platform launch was reported in January. The responsible conclusion is narrower than the original headline: the platform appears to have entered commercial activity, while the full 5MW facility’s commissioning, certification and production capacity still require primary evidence.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Mari Energies supplying electricity to Islamabad?
No. The project is digital infrastructure: a Sky47 data-centre and cloud platform near Capital Smart City, not a municipal power-generation or electricity-distribution project.
Does 5MW mean customers can immediately buy 5MW of computing?
Not necessarily. The disclosures do not define whether 5MW is total facility power, critical power or IT load, nor do they confirm how much capacity is live.
Has the Islamabad data centre received Tier III certification?
The project is described as Tier III or intended for Tier-III certification, but the available material does not provide a current certificate, issuer, date or audit scope.
