A woman in her 70s from Mandurah won a $1.6 million Saturday Lotto prize after buying her ticket in Pinjarra, Lotterywest reported on 1 May 2025. She had played the same numbers for more than 50 years and registered the ticket to her Lotterywest membership, which led to a call from the operator the next day.
How the Mandurah woman bought her winning ticket
The woman went to Pinjarra to buy cat litter and decided to shop there rather than face busy traffic around her usual Mandurah-area errands. She bought the winning ticket at a Pinjarra newsagent. “I needed kitty litter, and thought I’d go to Pinjarra to avoid the busy traffic,” she told Lotterywest.
Lotterywest’s 1 May 2025 report says she had played the same numbers for more than 50 years. Her identity, ticket number, draw number and draw date were not disclosed.
How she verified the win
Because she had registered the ticket to her Lotterywest membership, the operator was able to contact her the following day. Lotterywest spokesperson Zoe Wender said registered tickets matching a Division One prize prompt a phone call “first thing the next business day.”

The unexpected call made the winner cautious. “I was worried it was a scam, so I called Lotterywest right back on their main number to confirm.” Lotterywest’s report does not specify the number she called. She said she was still processing the news: “I couldn’t believe it, you never expect it to happen to you.”
What ticket registration means for WA players
Lotterywest says membership is free and that members can use a physical or digital membership card to register a ticket with a retailer before buying it. The registration can help the operator identify and contact a member if a ticket wins. Its guidance is specific to Western Australia; players elsewhere should check their own lottery operator’s rules.
