Mandurah Sunday and Public Holiday Retail Hours: What Changed in 2024–25

Mandurah’s 8am–6pm Sunday retail window was a temporary 2024–25 Christmas extension. The permanent Sunday and public holiday hours listed by WA Consumer Protection are 10am–5pm.

Mandurah’s extra Sunday retail hours were a temporary Christmas trading extension, not a permanent change. General retail shops could trade from 8am to 6pm on Sundays from 8 December 2024 through 2 January 2025—three hours longer than Mandurah’s usual Sunday window. That extension has ended.

What the 2024–25 extension allowed

The City of Mandurah announced the temporary schedule on 27 November 2024 for general retail shops. The Sunday window was 8am–6pm from 8 December 2024 through 2 January 2025. The City described this as three extra hours of Sunday trading.

The announcement also set these seasonal hours:

  • Weekdays, 9–13 December 2024: 8am–9pm, unchanged.
  • Weekdays, 16–24 December 2024: 7am–9pm, one extra hour.
  • Saturdays, 7 December 2024–2 January 2025: 8am–6pm, unchanged.
  • Sundays, 8 December 2024–2 January 2025: 8am–6pm, three extra hours.

Public holiday hours in the announcement

For 2025, the City listed 8am–6pm trading for general retail shops on six public holidays:

  • New Year’s Day, 1 January
  • Australia Day public holiday, 27 January
  • Labour Day, 3 March
  • Easter Monday, 21 April
  • WA Day, 2 June
  • King’s Birthday, 29 September

These were dates in the same historical announcement, not a standing approval for future years. The notice separately identified Christmas Day, Good Friday and Anzac Day as closure days. City of Mandurah’s announcement

What Mandurah’s permanent hours are

WA Consumer Protection’s Mandurah entry lists the permanent general retail trading hours as 8am–9pm Monday to Friday, 8am–6pm Saturday, and 10am–5pm Sunday and public holidays. It also lists Christmas Day, Good Friday and Anzac Day as closure days. The temporary Christmas schedule should not be confused with these permanent hours. WA Consumer Protection: Regional trading hours variations

The state’s regional Christmas trading page contains later, year-specific approvals. Its 2025 seasonal schedule ran from 6–31 December and differed from the City’s 2024 announcement. The page also lists Mandurah approvals for specified 2026 public holidays, including 8am–6pm hours. Because the state page is updated as approvals are made, check its current entry for the specific date you plan to shop rather than assuming a past schedule still applies. Trading permission does not guarantee a shop will open

The hours are the permitted trading window for general retail shops; they do not require every retailer to open for all or any of that period. A particular store may choose its own opening hours, so check the retailer’s current listing before making a trip.

Why the City extended the hours

The City said the temporary schedule brought Mandurah’s Christmas trading hours in line with the neighbouring Perth metropolitan area. In 2024, it reported more than 400 active retail businesses and nearly 5,000 retail employees. Those are figures attributed to the City at the time, not current audited counts. The announcement did not report independently measured sales, employment or other economic effects caused by the extension, so its stated aim should not be read as proof of an economic impact.
