Malwarebytes announced its acquisition of VPN provider AzireVPN on November 7, 2024. The companies did not disclose the purchase price or transaction structure. The deal brought AzireVPN’s VPN technology and intellectual property—particularly its Blind Operator design—into Malwarebytes’ privacy product strategy. Malwarebytes now says its Privacy VPN is built in partnership with AzireVPN and uses AzireVPN infrastructure.
What did Malwarebytes acquire?
Malwarebytes described AzireVPN as a privacy-focused VPN provider and said it acquired the company to integrate its VPN technologies and intellectual property into Malwarebytes’ platform. A central part of the deal was Blind Operator, a design AzireVPN developed to disable remote and local access to its servers. The goal, as described in the announcement, is to make unauthorized server modification and traffic interception more difficult.

Malwarebytes also said it intended to continue AzireVPN’s practice of physically owning and controlling its servers. That is a distinct element of the company’s infrastructure approach; it does not by itself establish how every part of the VPN service is secured or operated.

Why did Malwarebytes buy AzireVPN?
The announced rationale was to add AzireVPN’s technology and intellectual property to Malwarebytes’ privacy offerings. The acquisition release framed the move as a way to deliver more flexibility and security through Malwarebytes’ platform. It did not provide a financial rationale, a revenue forecast, or details about the transaction structure.

What changed for Malwarebytes VPN users?
Malwarebytes’ current Privacy VPN product page describes the service as “built in partnership with AzireVPN.” It says the product uses a self-owned physical-server network, diskless servers, Blind Operator mode, and a no-activity-logging approach. These are Malwarebytes’ current product and policy claims, rather than a guarantee that no data can ever be exposed.
A specific software change followed in the Windows VPN release. Version 3.18.0, dated January 27, 2026, updated the backend to connect with AzireVPN infrastructure. Its release notes also list an update to the WireGuardNT tunnel driver in applicable configurations and say Multihop was deprecated. This is a Windows version note, not a statement that every Malwarebytes VPN app or platform changed in precisely the same way.

Is AzireVPN still operating, and does Malwarebytes use its infrastructure?
Malwarebytes’ current product page presents Privacy VPN as a service built in partnership with AzireVPN, and the Windows 3.18.0 notes specifically say the backend connects with AzireVPN infrastructure. The public X41 D-Sec audit report also says Malwarebytes Privacy VPN leverages AzireVPN infrastructure. Together, these sources establish that AzireVPN’s technology and infrastructure remain part of Malwarebytes’ VPN offering; they do not establish that AzireVPN continues to operate as a separate consumer-facing service under unchanged terms.

Malwarebytes’ product page currently lists more than 150 servers in more than 60 locations. Server counts and locations are product-page figures and may change.

What did the independent audit establish?
On April 2, 2026, Malwarebytes announced that X41 D-Sec had completed its first independent third-party security audit of AzireVPN infrastructure. The announcement says the review covered VPN software and hardware and assessed infrastructure integrity and adherence to the stated no-logs policy. The public report identifies Malwarebytes Inc. as the purchaser of AzireVPN and says Malwarebytes Privacy VPN leverages AzireVPN infrastructure.
The audit is relevant independent evidence about the scope documented by X41 D-Sec. It should not be read as a guarantee of perfect security, a permanent finding about future service operation, or proof that every possible privacy risk has been eliminated. The no-logs position remains a policy claim whose audit coverage and conclusions should be understood within the report’s stated scope.

How Malwarebytes sells Privacy VPN
The current product page presents Privacy VPN as a standalone subscription and Malwarebytes Plus as a bundle that includes Premium Security and Browser Guard. Which option makes sense depends on whether a customer wants VPN service alone or also wants those security products; the bundle description does not change the infrastructure facts above.
