Yes. A Maharashtra Women and Child Development Department scrutiny review reportedly found that 14,298 men had enrolled in the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana by misrepresenting their identities. Hindustan Times reported on July 27, 2025, that ₹21.44 crore was paid to them over 10 months and that their payments had been stopped. The underlying review and a final recovery or enforcement outcome have not been independently established in the available reporting.

What the department review reportedly found

Hindustan Times reported that the department’s review identified 14,298 men who had received scheme benefits after allegedly misrepresenting their identities. It put the total paid to them at ₹21.44 crore over 10 months and reported that payments were stopped. Scroll later repeated the figures, citing Hindustan Times and department information. The scrutiny report itself is not available in the cited coverage. The count and amount should therefore be understood as findings attributed to the department review in news reports, not as figures independently verified from the underlying document or a court’s finding. The reports describe alleged identity misrepresentation; they do not establish that every person identified was convicted or otherwise adjudicated to have committed fraud.

What Ladki Bahin provides and who it is for

The Government of Maharashtra describes Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana as a program intended to support women’s economic independence, health and nutrition, and participation in family decisions. The official scheme portal lists a monthly direct benefit transfer of ₹1,500 for eligible women ages 21–65. Its stated eligibility includes Maharashtra residence, household annual income of no more than ₹2.5 lakh, an Aadhaar-linked bank account, and specified marital or dependency status. The original Government Resolution, dated June 28, 2024, also specified exclusions, including households above the income ceiling, households with an income-tax payer, certain government employees or pensioners, and households with a registered four-wheeler other than a tractor. Rules have since been amended, including the age range and the category of eligible unmarried family members. Applicants should use the live portal and the latest applicable resolution rather than relying on the original 2024 rules alone. June 28, 2024 Government Resolution.

Payments were reportedly stopped; recovery is not confirmed

Hindustan Times reported that accounts associated with the men were frozen or stopped from receiving further payments. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar said the government would seek to recover money from men who received it and would take strict action if they did not cooperate. That statement expressed the government’s intended response; it does not confirm that money was recovered or that enforcement was completed. Hindustan Times.

A Scroll report dated July 12, 2026 revisited the 2025 finding and said payments had been stopped, but it did not establish a recovery total or final enforcement outcome. Scroll.
