These are estimates of copies sold, not revenue rankings or audited totals. The list includes albums broadly: its top entry is a greatest-hits compilation, not a studio album.
Madonna’s top three albums by Guinness’s worldwide estimates
Guinness World Records places these releases in the following order, using approximate worldwide sales figures. The figures are reported estimates, not exact, independently audited totals.

1. The Immaculate Collection — about 30 million
Released in 1990, The Immaculate Collection compiles hits from 1983 through 1990. Madonna’s official album page describes it as a collection of 15 hit singles with two new tracks, “Justify My Love” and “Rescue Me.” See Madonna’s official album page.
The approximate 30-million figure is Guinness World Records’ estimate. Madonna’s official page gives a lower combined figure: more than 10 million copies in the United States and another 12 million outside America, or more than 22 million in total. The page does not state when that total was compiled. The two figures should not be treated as a single agreed global count.

2. True Blue — about 25 million
Guinness estimates that the 1986 studio album True Blue has sold about 25 million copies worldwide. Other estimates are lower: ChartMasters lists 22.55 million in original album sales, while Best Selling Albums lists 14,218,761. These figures come from separate secondary estimates and should not be combined or presented as if they use one shared method.
3. Like a Virgin — about 22 million
Guinness estimates about 22 million worldwide copies for the 1984 studio album Like a Virgin. ChartMasters lists 21.25 million in original album sales; Best Selling Albums lists 15,040,179. The differences between published estimates are substantial enough that the ranking depends on which source and method is used.

Why published Madonna album rankings differ
Worldwide album sales are not represented here by one uniform, audited dataset. Guinness itself cautions that precise sales figures are difficult to obtain and often disputed. Its ranking puts True Blue ahead of Like a Virgin, but the Best Selling Albums estimates reverse those two titles, while ChartMasters reports lower totals than Guinness for both. Differences in data coverage, definitions, and estimation methods can produce different totals and ordering.
Guinness also states that most estimates place Madonna’s total record sales between 300 million and 400 million, and that only The Beatles, Elvis Presley, and Michael Jackson have conclusively sold more records worldwide. That broad career estimate is separate from the album-by-album figures above.

Worldwide sales estimates are not US certifications
RIAA certifications measure US units under the certification system; they are not worldwide sales totals. Guinness reports The Immaculate Collection at 11 million US units and 11× multi-platinum, with certification dated May 5, 2023. It reports Like a Virgin at 10 million US units. Those US certification figures should not be substituted for the worldwide estimates in the ranking.

Here, “highest-grossing” is interpreted as the albums with the most estimated copies sold. The available figures describe sales or units, not money earned. They do not establish which album generated the most revenue, since revenue would require comparable prices, formats, territories, and accounting periods.
Rank #4
- Madonna
- Veronica Electronica
If you mean Madonna’s highest-selling studio albums only, exclude The Immaculate Collection because it is a compilation. On Guinness’s estimates, the first two studio albums in this list are True Blue and Like a Virgin; a studio-only ranking beyond those titles would require consistent figures from one source.
