Here are five useful facts about her succession to leadership, the company’s reported scale, the traditions she says guide decisions, its charitable work, and her family’s move to Tennessee—distinct from the company’s California headquarters.
1. She inherited a family business founded in 1948
Harry and Esther Snyder opened the first In-N-Out Burger in 1948. The company’s official history describes its growth and founding values. Their granddaughter, Lynsi Snyder-Ellingson, became the chain’s president in 2010 and took full ownership in May 2017, according to the Orange County Business Journal.
The succession unfolded over time: the Journal reports that Snyder became the chain’s primary beneficiary at 23, then took full ownership at 35 while retaining the presidency. Those reported milestones explain the chronology without establishing every legal detail of the inheritance.
2. She worked at In-N-Out before becoming president
Snyder began working for the company at 17 and was named president at 27, according to Bizwomen’s February 2025 profile. Her career began inside the family business; her subsequent ownership came through succession. The timeline is useful context, but by itself it does not establish how the company’s ownership was legally transferred.

3. Her leadership account puts family tradition at the center
In the 2025 Bizwomen profile, Snyder described judging potential changes against the legacy her grandparents established: “The things that I don’t want to change would be anything that would compromise what my grandparents have started, their legacy. I run things through this little process of, ‘Would they be ok with this? Is this something that they would do or not?’ The changes that we have made, they seem justified.” This is her account of how she approaches change, not an independent assessment of the company’s decisions.
In a December 2024 Crosswalk interview, she also described quality, freshness and cleanliness as founding priorities, and customer service and care for associates as central to her own leadership. She discussed her Christian faith as part of her life and leadership as well.

4. ‘Billionaire’ is a broad description, not a verified current valuation
In-N-Out is privately held, so its business figures are reported estimates rather than public-company audited disclosures. The Orange County Business Journal reported $2.4 billion in 2024 sales, up from $2.1 billion in 2023, and counted 423 stores in its July 2025 snapshot. It also described the company as non-franchising. These figures are attributed reporting, not current 2026 totals.
The Journal and Bizwomen each repeated a $6.7 billion estimate of Snyder’s net worth for 2024. That is a dated third-party estimate, not a verified current valuation. A precise net worth as of October 2026 is not established here, so “billionaire” is best read as a general description rather than a current balance-sheet figure.

Company-announced milestones provide additional context but not a current store count: In-N-Out said it celebrated its 400th location in Meridian, Idaho, on December 12, 2023. Its timeline records the first Washington location in August 2025 and the first Tennessee restaurants in December 2025, making Tennessee its tenth state at that point. Personal residence and corporate offices are different
The Associated Press reported on July 22, 2025, that Snyder said she and her family planned to move to Tennessee. AP quoted her saying, “There are a lot of great things about California, but raising a family is not easy here,” and, “Doing business is not easy here.” AP also reported her statement that In-N-Out’s corporate headquarters would remain in California. The family’s move should not be described as a headquarters relocation.

Separately, the Orange County Business Journal reported that In-N-Out planned to move from Irvine to Baldwin Park in 2029. Snyder said the move would centralize the western headquarters in Baldwin Park, where the company began. The announced plan concerns the company’s California offices, not her family’s residence.
Three charitable initiatives have distinct missions
In-N-Out’s official history says the In-N-Out Burger Foundation grew from a Child Abuse Fund established by Esther Snyder and her son Rich. It supports organizations providing residential treatment, emergency shelter, foster care and early intervention for children in need. In the 2024 Crosswalk interview, Snyder said her grandmother, uncle and mother created the foundation in the 1980s to fight and prevent child abuse.

Snyder and her husband, Sean Ellingson, established Slave 2 Nothing in 2016 to help people and families affected by human trafficking and substance abuse, according to the company’s official timeline. In 2025, they legally formed the His Eyes Foundation to honor Evan Ellingson’s commitment to serving people experiencing homelessness. Snyder said the initiative aims to provide practical resources alongside respect and dignity. These are the company’s descriptions of the organizations’ purposes.
