What Lyckeby announced
In a company update posted on its LinkedIn page in 2026, Lyckeby said that a groundbreaking had marked the start of construction on a new tank facility. The company wrote that the facility “will increase our capacity for modified potato starch,” and framed the project as “an investment in future growth.” Lyckeby describes it as a key part of its long-term growth strategy and as one of the largest investments in the company’s history. That last point is the company’s own characterization. The update does not give a monetary value for the investment.
What is confirmed and what is not
The announcement is specific about its direction and timing, but it stops short of the numbers that would let a reader judge the scale of the project.

Who attended the groundbreaking
The update names Hans Holmstedt, Group CEO, Nicklas Göransson, Chairman of the Board, and representatives from CONSYD AB. It does not attribute the quoted “future growth” wording to any one of them. Attendance at a groundbreaking does not establish who is building, supplying or financing the tanks, so those roles should not be inferred from the event alone.
Lyckeby’s business and product range
Lyckeby describes itself as a producer of potato-based specialty starches and fibers for the food and paper industries worldwide. Its product page lists four main categories: modified starch, clean-label starch, potato fiber and native potato starch. The company says these products are developed and manufactured in Sweden, mainly from potatoes grown by its owners.

Why modified starch matters to food and paper makers
According to Lyckeby, functional starches can improve texture and viscosity in food, or partly replace ingredients such as fat, egg and milk to reduce cost or allergen exposure. In paper manufacturing, the company supplies technical starch products under its Solam business brand, with application specialists providing technical support and process optimization. The announcement does not say which of these applications the new tank capacity will serve, so the expansion should be read as capacity for the modified starch line as a whole.
Ownership base
Lyckeby’s company profile says the group has an economic association with around 500 members in southern Sweden, around 350 of whom are farmers, and that production is based mainly on potatoes. These are the company’s own approximate figures.

Do not confuse it with the Nöbbelöv silo
Lyckeby also reported a separate storage silo project in Nöbbelöv in a news item dated 7 November 2024. At that time the company said the silo was expected to be ready in May 2025, to handle higher potato-starch production. That is a different project from the tank facility. The 2024 report does not confirm whether the silo was completed on schedule, and its storage volume or dimensions should not be used as specifications for the new tank facility.
Questions to watch as the project develops
- Whether Lyckeby publishes the added capacity in tonnes and the investment value.
- Whether the 2028 commissioning date is confirmed, moved or delayed in later updates.
- Which customer segments, food or paper, the added modified starch volume is intended to serve.
- The contractor and equipment roles, which the current update leaves open.
Relevance for personal finance readers
