Lufthansa’s first Boeing 787-9 fitted with its Allegris cabin across all three classes arrived in Frankfurt from Seattle on 30 August 2025. The aircraft, registered D-ABPF, began regular Frankfurt–Toronto service on 9 October 2025. Later, on 16 March 2026, Lufthansa announced that 25 of the aircraft’s 28 Allegris Business Class seats had been certified.
When did Lufthansa’s first Allegris 787-9 arrive?
Lufthansa announced the aircraft’s arrival in Frankfurt on 30 August 2025, after it flew in from Seattle. It was the airline’s first Boeing 787-9 with the Allegris interior installed throughout Business, Premium Economy and Economy. Lufthansa initially said it planned to deploy the aircraft on Frankfurt–Toronto from mid-October 2025. Lufthansa’s arrival announcement also described Business Suites with chest-high walls, a 27-inch monitor, storage, a wardrobe and a personal minibar.
Lufthansa later identified the aircraft as D-ABPF, “Frankfurt am Main,” and said it had regularly flown between Frankfurt and Toronto since 9 October 2025. That service date is earlier than the mid-October estimate in the original arrival announcement. The christening announcement also quoted Lufthansa Group CEO Carsten Spohr calling the aircraft a milestone in fleet modernization.

Yes, the aircraft described here has Allegris Business Class, but certification and seat availability have changed over time. The first flight with those seats available departed Frankfurt for Toronto on 15 March 2026. What is the 787-9 Allegris seat layout?
Lufthansa’s typical 787-9 seat map shows 28 Business, 28 Premium Economy and 197 Economy seats, for 287 in total. Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What did Lufthansa say about the aircraft’s fuel use?
Lufthansa said in 2025 that the 787-9 averages about 2.5 litres of kerosene per passenger per 100 kilometres, approximately 25% less than its predecessor model. This is the airline’s stated average and comparison, not an independently verified result for every flight. Lufthansa included the claim in its arrival announcement and repeated it in its aircraft christening announcement.

How has the fleet rollout progressed?
The first aircraft’s arrival announcement in August 2025 included a forecast of up to nine additional 787-9s at Frankfurt by year-end; that was a projection, not a confirmed delivery tally. In March 2026, Lufthansa said nine of ten new aircraft were already in service or would enter service by 18 March, and it set a target of 29 787-9s by the end of 2027. Separately, Deutsche Lufthansa AG reported four additional Allegris 787-9 deliveries in the first quarter of 2026. These figures refer to different dated updates and should not be treated as a current fleet count. The Group’s first-quarter 2026 interim report gives the quarterly delivery figure.
