Longbridge Financial COO Bill Packer says the company is moving beyond a model that relies primarily on outside technology vendors and is building more capability internally. In his account, artificial-intelligence tools and workflow automation handle routine questions and processing, while employees remain responsible for complex borrower situations, judgment-heavy underwriting and personalized service.
The adoption and productivity figures below are statements from Packer or Longbridge, not independent evaluations. Longbridge’s public interviews and company pages also leave some implementation details—particularly the current launch status of its automated-underwriting project—unsettled.

What Longbridge says it is changing
Packer describes an “inflection point” in reverse-mortgage operations. Rather than treating technology as something selected mainly from vendors, Longbridge says it is using feedback from borrowers, loan officers and business partners to decide which capabilities to develop in-house.
That approach includes digital tools for borrower contact, artificial-intelligence assistants for partner questions, workflow engines for servicing and an attempted automated-underwriting platform. The stated objective is not to remove people from the process. Packer says, “We always believe in keeping humans firmly in the loop.”

Borrow Portal beta
In a HousingWire interview, Packer said the Borrow Portal was in beta and that 40% of customers invited to participate chose it instead of more traditional contact with a loan officer. That is a company interview claim; the source does not provide an independent adoption study or a complete description of the invited population.

Where AI and automation fit into the workflow
Routine inquiries and partner support
Longbridge’s Bridget is described as an AI assistant inside the Partner Portal. The company says it answers product and guideline questions, including questions about Platinum by Longbridge, and that it became available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Packer told HousingWire that Bridget had answered more than 76,000 questions since going live in December 2025.
Longbridge’s partner page sets important boundaries: Bridget was trained on a limited number of policies, its answers can be inaccurate or unavailable, and its responses are not legal advice or a guarantee of an outcome. Users should therefore treat an answer as informational and confirm decisions through the appropriate human or formal policy channel.

Processing and servicing
Packer says AI-powered agents handle more straightforward work so employees can spend time on complicated transactions and individualized service. He told HousingWire that processors could handle 12% more loans after the technologies were deployed.
In a Longbridge company blog post, the firm also describes a servicing effort to turn its best practices into a standardized workflow engine that can be used across the business. The same post reports up to a 500% productivity improvement in servicing, nearly a 50% reduction in cost per boarded loan after document-review automation, and 67% fewer ACH-processing errors. Longbridge presents these as its own results; the available material does not identify an independent audit, a common baseline or the measurement period for each figure.

Why human expertise still matters
Reverse mortgages can involve nonstandard income, property, title, occupancy and family circumstances. Packer’s division of labor is deliberately conservative: “Let the AI work on the simpler, more straightforward transactions, and then when things get more complex, there’s more discussion that needs to happen.”

He also said, “Every transaction that gets underwritten is a manual underwrite.” That statement describes the process in the interview and should not be read as proof that Loanbridge IRIS has replaced human underwriting.

For older customers, accessibility and a clear handoff are especially important. A June 2025 HousingWire discussion with Packer emphasized thinking carefully about how AI systems serve older people and curating tools rather than deploying them indiscriminately. The article references a 2024 study through Packer’s description, but does not establish enough information to treat that mention as an independently verified finding.
Loanbridge IRIS and the uncertain launch timeline
Packer describes Loanbridge IRIS as an automated-underwriting platform intended to help underwriters make credit decisions and make processing more streamlined, transparent and repeatable. However, a HousingWire interview published July 15, 2025 said Longbridge had not yet introduced automated underwriting into reverse mortgages at that time.

The newer interview describes an attempt to deploy IRIS, but the cited sources do not establish its current public availability, production scope or independent performance. Readers should distinguish an announced or developing platform from a generally available underwriting system.

In that July 2025 interview, Packer said FHA and Ginnie Mae did not then permit eNotes for their loans. He distinguished proprietary loans and hybrid closings from a fully digital closing and said Longbridge was working with FHA and Ginnie Mae on the issue. This is a dated account of policy at that interview, not confirmation of current agency rules.

Reverse-mortgage applications contain sensitive financial and personal information. Packer advised caution when entering such data into publicly available internet services that may use submissions to train models. Automation can reduce handling time, but it does not remove the need for access controls, vendor review, privacy safeguards and human oversight.

Product iteration beyond automation
Packer also points to ongoing product development, including HELOC For Seniors. Longbridge’s newsroom describes it as a home-equity credit line for older homeowners. Product features and availability can change, and the interview does not establish eligibility, pricing, suitability for a particular borrower or a comparison with other home-equity options.
What the strategy means for borrowers and professionals
Longbridge’s stated model is a hybrid one: automate repeatable tasks, use bounded assistants for information retrieval, and reserve people for exceptions and decisions. The potential benefit is faster processing and more consistent execution. The corresponding risks are inaccurate automated answers, opaque decision logic, privacy exposure and an inadequate handoff when a case does not fit the system’s training.
Anyone interacting with an AI assistant should verify consequential guidance, avoid sharing unnecessary personal information and ask for a qualified employee when circumstances are unusual. Loan officers and partners should treat the reported percentages as company performance claims rather than benchmarks that automatically apply to another lender or operation.
