Lockheed Martin Aeronautics received a reported $700.4 million U.S. contract modification on March 9, 2026, to procure long-lead materials, parts, and components for F-35 production Lots 20 and 21. The action supports Denmark’s expanded F-35A program, but it is not a $700.4 million Denmark-only purchase, a stated price for a set number of Danish aircraft, or an announcement that finished jets have been delivered.
What the $700.4 million contract covers
MILMAG reported that the U.S. Navy’s Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR), acting for the U.S. Department of Defense, awarded the modification to Lockheed Martin Aeronautics on March 9, 2026. The reported scope expands procurement of long-lead materials, parts, and components for Lots 20 and 21 of F-35 full-rate production. Work is planned through December 2030. The contract details are attributed to MILMAG’s account of a Pentagon contract notice; the notice itself is not available in the cited sources. MILMAG’s March 10, 2026 report gives the award figure as $700.4 million, rounded to $700 million in some headlines.
Long-lead procurement secures items needed ahead of aircraft assembly. It is an early production step, not a report that completed aircraft have been delivered. The reporting does not specify how many Danish F-35As this modification funds.
Why this is not a Denmark-only bill
The reported funding combines contributions from multiple F-35 customer channels:

| Funding source | Reported amount |
|---|---|
| F-35 Joint Strike Fighter program partners | $305.9 million |
| Foreign Military Sales customers | $394.5 million |
| Total modification | $700.4 million |
These figures are reported by MILMAG, not independently verified against the original award notice. They show why the full modification should not be presented as Danish spending: its reported funding spans partner nations and Foreign Military Sales customers, and its work supports international F-35 production.
MILMAG also reported that work is distributed across multiple locations: Fort Worth, Texas (59%); El Segundo, California (14%); Warton, United Kingdom (9%); Cameri, Italy (4%); Orlando, Florida (4%); Nashua, New Hampshire (3%); Baltimore, Maryland (3%); San Diego, California (2%); and other locations outside the continental United States (2%). This is the geographic breakdown in that report.

How the contract fits Denmark’s aircraft plan
Denmark’s original F-35A program of record was 27 aircraft, according to a 2021 Lockheed Martin release. In March 2026, MILMAG reported that Denmark had completed negotiations in October 2025 for 16 additional aircraft, which would bring the planned total to 43. That purchase plan is distinct from the multinational production-materials contract: the reported award does not say that all its funds pay for those 16 aircraft.
Deliveries and basing are separate milestones, too. Lockheed Martin reported in October 2023 that the first four F-35As permanently based in Denmark had arrived at Skrydstrup. At that time, Denmark had taken delivery of ten aircraft, with six at Luke Air Force Base for training. Those are dated 2023 figures, not a current fleet count. MILMAG reported in March 2026 that delivery of the initial aircraft was expected to finish in 2027.

Why a U.S. agency is handling the contract
The U.S. Joint Program Office manages the F-35 procurement process and is the contracting party, according to the Danish Defence procurement page. That arrangement explains why a contract supporting Denmark’s aircraft can be a U.S. contracting action and include funding from multiple international customers. Denmark’s acquisition organization also supports Danish companies seeking to participate in the program. Danish Defence’s F-35 procurement page was last updated July 24, 2023.

Lockheed Martin’s April 2021 release said Terma A/S and Multicut A/S were Danish companies making parts and components for the F-35 program. The release described Denmark’s then-current program-of-record figure as 27 aircraft, each to be built in Fort Worth. Its October 2023 release also described Danish industry contributions to F-35 production, development, and sustainment. These are company-reported, dated statements rather than a measure of current Danish fleet size or current contract value.

In the 2021 release, then-Danish Minister of Defense Trine Bramsen said: “The F-35s will be at the absolute center for the Danish Defense in the coming decades.” The quote was made in 2021 and was not a response to the 2026 contract. Lockheed Martin’s April 7, 2021 announcement provides that historical program context; its October 1, 2023 announcement covers the first four aircraft based at Skrydstrup.
