The move takes the former advertising and media executive into digital health, where eMed focuses on GLP-1 and GIP medication management for obesity and type 2 diabetes.
For patients, employers and benefits managers, the important distinction is that eMed is not a drugmaker. It presents itself as a telehealth and population-health platform that combines screening, clinician review, prescription coordination, medication access and ongoing monitoring.

What happened to Linda Yaccarino?
eMed announced on August 5, 2025 that Yaccarino had joined the company as its chief executive officer. This was an operating CEO appointment—not a board, advisory or investment role, according to the appointment announcement.
Yaccarino had announced in July 2025 that she was stepping down as CEO of X after roughly two years in the role. Reuters reported on her departure, while another Reuters account described the move to eMed as occurring approximately one month later.

What is eMed?
eMed is a Miami-based digital-health and telehealth company. Its business is centered on what it calls GLP-1/GIP population-health management, particularly for obesity and type 2 diabetes care.
GLP-1 and GIP medicines are prescription treatments used in diabetes and, for eligible patients, weight-management care. eMed does not manufacture those medicines. Instead, the company says its platform can coordinate:
- At-home screening and biomarker collection
- Medical-history questionnaires
- Review by licensed clinicians
- Prescription decisions when clinically appropriate
- Medication sourcing and delivery
- Weekly check-ins and side-effect support
- Weight, dose, adherence and biomarker monitoring
- Lifestyle and digital support
That makes eMed different from a simple prescription marketplace. It positions itself as a combination of a clinical service, medication-management program, diagnostics platform and employer-benefits offering. Its company overview and employer materials describe both individual and employer-facing programs.
Why would eMed hire an advertising executive?
The strongest documented rationale is commercial rather than clinical. The appointment announcement emphasized Yaccarino’s experience with partnerships, digital platforms, brand building and growth. Reuters also reported that eMed works with employers and government payers to manage GLP-1 use.
That background may be useful because the next phase of GLP-1 care is not only about writing prescriptions. Companies also compete on patient acquisition, affordability, adherence, employer distribution, engagement and the ability to operate at scale.
In that sense, Yaccarino appears to have been hired for commercial execution and distribution, not medical authority. She is not presented in the available sources as a physician or clinical specialist. Her business experience also does not automatically transfer to the regulatory, privacy, safety and clinical-governance requirements of telehealth.
Yaccarino’s career before eMed
Yaccarino spent much of her career in advertising and media. She worked for more than a decade at NBCUniversal, where she led advertising operations and related commercial initiatives. In 2023, she became CEO of X under Elon Musk’s ownership.

At X, her work included efforts to rebuild advertiser confidence and restore advertising revenue during a period marked by controversy over content moderation, brand safety and Musk’s public conduct. Those efforts made partnerships and advertiser relationships central to her role, but the available coverage does not support presenting her tenure as an unqualified turnaround.
Her eMed appointment therefore represents a significant sector change:
| At X | At eMed |
|---|---|
| Social platform and advertising business | Digital-health and telehealth platform |
| Advertiser relationships and brand safety | Clinical delivery and medication management |
| Consumer technology scale | Employer, payer and patient health programs |
| Revenue recovery and partnerships | Access, adherence, monitoring and health outcomes |
How eMed’s programs work
For an employer-sponsored program, eMed describes a workflow that generally begins with enrollment through its app. The user completes an at-home screening process, provides health and biomarker information, and fills out a medical-history questionnaire. Licensed clinicians then review the information and decide whether treatment is appropriate.
If approved, medication may be delivered to the patient. The company describes continuing check-ins, side-effect support and monitoring of weight, dosage, adherence and biomarkers. Employers receive aggregated reporting, according to eMed, rather than individual health information or participation data.
That privacy distinction matters to employees considering an employer program. However, the exact data practices depend on the applicable privacy notice, benefit arrangement and employer contract. Employees should review those terms rather than assume that every form of participation data is handled identically.
Pricing and eligibility
Prices are volatile and differ between individual enrollment and employer arrangements. On eMed’s individual program page, prices displayed on August 16, 2026 included:
- $49: one-time application and screening fee
- From $149.99 per month: prescription medication, paid only if approved
- $149.99 per month: eMed membership fee
These figures are shown on eMed’s individual signup page and should not be treated as permanent pricing. Eligibility, medication availability, insurance treatment and fees can change.
Recommended Free Tools
A separate healthcare-system offer lists starting prices of $25 per employee per month for employers and $99 per month for employees for clinical care and FDA-approved GLP-1 medications across doses. That appears to be a segment-specific offer, not a universal employer price; the details are listed at eMed’s healthcare-system page.
Paying a program or membership fee does not guarantee approval or medication access. A licensed clinician must review the patient, and treatment remains subject to clinical eligibility, prescription requirements, availability and applicable safety information.

What eMed says about its scale
According to eMed’s latest official “About” page, the company reports more than 1,200 clients, more than 6 million users and more than 25 million tests. It also describes a relationship with Aon, including a strategic investment, and relationships involving Thrive Global and CVS Health.
The same page reports that eMed raised $200 million at a valuation above $2 billion. These are company-reported figures; the available material does not independently audit or verify each number.
There is also an apparent inconsistency across eMed’s website: an older page lists Wendi Mader as CEO, while newer official pages identify Yaccarino. The latest “About” page and homepage support describing Yaccarino as the current CEO, but the company’s pages are not perfectly synchronized.
What remains unproven
eMed’s website makes claims about adherence, weight loss, biomarker changes and potential cost savings. Some results are identified as internal or corporate-partner data. That does not necessarily make them unreliable, but it means readers should not treat them as independently proven clinical outcomes without more information.
Important questions include:
- How many people were included?
- How were participants selected?
- How long were they followed?
- Was there a control group?
- Were outcomes measured across all users or only selected cohorts?
- Were medication costs included in savings calculations?
- Have the findings been independently validated or peer-reviewed?
Individual results vary, and a digital program cannot guarantee weight loss, clinical improvement or medication access. Employers evaluating eMed should separately examine clinical governance, prescribing oversight, data protection, total costs, outcome methodology and what reporting they will receive.
What the appointment signals
Yaccarino’s move suggests that GLP-1 companies increasingly need more than a prescribing pathway. The competitive questions now include how to reach patients, retain them, support adherence, work with employers and payers, control costs and build trust around sensitive health data.

Her experience may help eMed with those commercial and distribution challenges. The central test will be whether the company can pair that growth expertise with strong medical leadership, compliance systems and transparent evidence. Experience scaling a media platform can support a health-tech business, but it cannot replace clinical credentials or independent validation of health outcomes.
What patients and employers should check
- Whether the quoted price includes medication, membership, consultations, laboratory work and delivery
- What happens if a clinician does not approve treatment
- Whether the desired medication is actually available
- How compounded or branded medicines, if offered, are described and regulated
- What health information is collected and who can access it
- Whether employer reports are aggregated and how small groups are handled
- What evidence supports claimed weight, adherence or cost outcomes
- Which clinician or care team handles side effects and follow-up
For patients, eMed should be compared with primary-care physicians, endocrinologists, obesity-medicine clinics and other digital-care providers based on clinical fit, total cost, continuity of care and privacy—not simply celebrity leadership or headline pricing.
