A specific Lewis Bake Shop Artisan Style 1/2 Loaf was recalled in July 2025 because some loaves contained visible hazelnuts that were not specifically declared on the package. It was distributed through Walmart and Kroger in 12 states. Check the lot code and package details below; the recall does not cover every bread sold by either retailer or every Lewis Bake Shop product.
Which bread was recalled?
Hartford Bakery, Inc. voluntarily recalled its Lewis Bake Shop Artisan Style 1/2 Loaf. The company said approximately 883 loaves from six production lots had visible hazelnuts but were packaged as the implicated white-bread product. The package said “May Contain Tree Nuts” but did not say “Contains Hazelnuts.” Hartford Bakery attributed the mix-up to an error when changing packaging from a hazelnut-containing bread to the white-bread product. The FDA-posted company announcement warns that people with a nut allergy or severe hazelnut sensitivity could face serious or life-threatening allergic reactions.
How to identify an affected package
Use the corrected list in Hartford Bakery’s July 11, 2025 announcement, posted by the FDA on July 14. The 12 lot codes are printed on the front of the flexible plastic bag:

Confirm the other package identifiers as well:
- Net weight: 12 oz (340 g)
- UPC: 24126018152, printed on the bottom
- Expiration date: 07/13/2025, printed on the front
The updated notice says no other lot codes were affected. An initial July 10 notice listed only six T10 codes; the July 11 update added the six TH10 codes and corrected the earlier list. Use the updated notice when checking a package.

Where was the bread distributed?
The product was distributed in Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, Arkansas, Missouri, Alabama, and Mississippi, including through Kroger and Walmart. The recall therefore covered a 12-state area, not only states commonly described as the South.
What should you do if you bought it?
Hartford Bakery’s announcement says consumers with an implicated product should return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. Do not eat bread that matches the recalled product details and lot codes, particularly if you or someone who may eat it has a nut allergy or sensitivity.

In its July 11, 2025 announcement, Hartford Bakery said it had no major reports of injury or illness at that time. The company also said it knew of one customer who experienced digestive discomfort after eating the bread and had received complaints from people who saw nuts before eating it. That dated statement does not establish whether there have been later reports.
