Leeds United is directly owned by 49ers Enterprises Global Football Group LLC, not by a publicly disclosed York-family percentage. Forbes estimated Denise York and her family’s net worth at $10 billion as of 11 September 2026, chiefly because of their San Francisco 49ers ownership. That is a family-level, publisher-produced estimate—not an audited figure, a valuation of Leeds, or Jed York’s personal net worth.
Who owns Leeds United now?
Leeds United Football Club Limited is wholly owned by 49ers Enterprises Global Football Group LLC, a Delaware company, according to the club’s corporate information. The same disclosure says 49ers Enterprises Partners LLC is the only entity with voting rights in the direct owner. Jed York and Paraag Marathe each own more than 10% of that voting-rights entity, and Marathe exercises its voting rights as a Leeds director.
This describes the club’s disclosed corporate and voting structure; it does not establish the York family’s precise economic share of Leeds. The club page does not publish a complete beneficial-ownership breakdown for the York family and other investors, so claims that the family owns a specific percentage of Leeds go beyond the available disclosure.
How the ownership changed
- 49ers Enterprises first invested in Leeds in 2018 and increased its stake over time. In 2020, the club said affiliated entities managed a 37% minority stake.
- On 17 July 2023, Leeds announced that the EFL had approved the sale and that 49ers Enterprises had assumed full ownership. Marathe became chairman, while Rudy Cline-Thomas joined as co-owner and vice-chair.
- On 27 March 2024, Elland Road Limited was transferred to Leeds United Football Club Limited. The club said the stadium had returned to club control for the first time since 2004.
How much are the York family worth?
Forbes displayed a real-time net-worth estimate of $10 billion for Denise York and family as of 11 September 2026. Forbes identifies the San Francisco 49ers as the family’s source of wealth and says the family owns more than 90% of the team. The estimate is time-sensitive and publisher-derived; it is not an audited accounting of family assets or a Leeds United valuation. It also should not be presented as Jed York’s individual net worth.

Forbes also reported that the 49ers were worth more than $8 billion and that Denise York’s father, Edward DeBartolo Sr., bought the team for $13 million in 1977. These are figures reported by Forbes, not independent valuations established here. Forbes’ Denise York profile provides its estimate and supporting context.
Bloomberg’s Denise York & family profile also traces its estimate chiefly to the family’s 49ers stake, but uses a distinct methodology and describes 90.8% family interests in its analysis. Its estimate and ownership attribution should not be blended with Forbes’ figures or with Leeds’ formal voting-rights disclosure: the publishers use their own methods, and the Leeds disclosure concerns a different company structure.

How did the York family make its money?
The sources identify sports ownership—especially the San Francisco 49ers—as the principal basis of the family’s reported wealth. Leeds United is an investment held through 49ers Enterprises, but the available sources do not establish a complete, current list of the York family’s other business interests. It would therefore be misleading to treat a broader portfolio as confirmed.

The clearest attributable objective is dated: when 49ers Enterprises took full ownership in 2023, the club said the immediate goal was to fight for promotion back to the Premier League in the 2023–24 season. That was a stated objective for that season, not evidence of a current 2026 commitment or a detailed long-term roadmap.

Leeds’ 2020 announcement described areas of collaboration within the wider 49ers business alliance, including ticketing strategies, sponsorship and commercial opportunities, stadium development, technology, retail, and sport development and training. It records areas of work at that time, not a current spending pledge or guarantee of a specific project.
Owning Elland Road through the club company gives Leeds corporate control of the stadium, but the March 2024 transfer announcement did not set out a redevelopment timetable or promise a particular project. The available club statements also do not establish a York-family investment commitment or a sale horizon.
