The latest report here is not a surge: CoinMarketCap’s 8 October 2026 update says SHIB fell about 5% on 7 October, despite a reported burn of nearly 298 million SHIB. The same recap noted short-window spot and futures flows that pointed in different directions. These are dated market observations, not a live quote or a reliable forecast.
What is the latest news on SHIB?
CoinMarketCap’s update dated 8 October 2026 summarized the 7 October session as a roughly 5% decline for SHIB and reported that nearly 298 million tokens were burned. It also reported eight-hour spot net inflows of about $506,680, a 440.65% increase, alongside weaker short-term flows and negative futures net flows. These figures describe different indicators over a short window; none establishes that a price reversal is imminent. CoinMarketCap
For context, a separate CoinMarketCap article dated 21 September 2026 described a 3–4% rise in SHIB during a broader altcoin rebound, alongside attention to burns and exchange flows. A token-specific headline can coincide with wider market direction, so a move should be checked against the same-period performance of crypto markets overall. CoinMarketCap
Market prices, percentage changes, volume and flows change continually. For a current quote, consult a live market-data page such as CoinGecko’s SHIB page, and note the publisher, timestamp, timezone and measurement window. The figures above are the dated values reported in the 8 October recap, not current readings.

A burn removes tokens from available supply, but it does not guarantee a price increase. The 7 October example illustrates the distinction: CoinMarketCap reported a substantial-sounding burn at the same time as a roughly 5% price decline. Price also responds to demand, overall crypto-market conditions, liquidity, and buying or selling activity in spot and derivatives markets.
Scale matters when interpreting a burn. A 2026 S-1/A filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission reported approximately 589.5 trillion SHIB maximum supply after the May 2021 burn and approximately 589.2 trillion circulating supply as of 13 May 2026. Those are dated filing figures, not a live supply reading. Against that scale, a burn of nearly 298 million tokens is a small fraction of circulating supply; its headline size alone does not demonstrate a material change in scarcity or demand. The project’s burn page describes a process involving BONE accumulated for burning and initiation through ShibTorch. That description should not be read as meaning every transaction automatically and immediately burns SHIB. What Shibarium and the wider ecosystem mean for SHIB
The official Shiba Inu site presents SHIB alongside BONE, LEASH, TREAT, ShibaSwap and Shibarium. It has also reported a milestone of one billion cumulative Shibarium transactions. That is a project-stated cumulative count; by itself, it does not establish how many active users there are, how much activity is ongoing, or whether demand for SHIB has increased. Shib.io

Official documentation describes Shibarium as an Ethereum Layer 2, gives chain ID 109, and lists BONE as the network currency symbol. Therefore, do not assume that SHIB is Shibarium’s gas token. The docs say users can add the network to MetaMask or another compatible Web3 wallet; check the current official documentation before using network settings because technical details can change. Network development and token performance are related but distinct questions. Ecosystem activity may matter to a broader view of the project, but a transaction milestone or product listing is not, on its own, proof of increased buying pressure for SHIB.

Before treating a headline as evidence of a lasting trend, compare like with like and keep the source and date attached to each number.
- Fix the time window. Check the exact session or interval, timestamp and timezone behind the quoted price change. An eight-hour flow figure and a daily price change are not the same measurement.
- Check SHIB-specific trading signals. Compare spot volume and exchange flows with futures flows. Short-window readings can conflict, as they did in CoinMarketCap’s 8 October recap.
- Compare the broader market. Check whether major crypto assets or altcoins moved in the same direction during the same period; the 21 September report placed SHIB’s rise in a wider altcoin rebound.
- Put burns in supply context. Compare the number burned with a dated circulating-supply figure, and do not treat a burn as a direct measure of demand.
- Separate source types. Market aggregators recap prices and flows; the project describes its own ecosystem and milestones; regulatory filings provide dated disclosures. Each answers a different question.
These checks help explain what may have accompanied a move; they cannot establish a dependable near-term price target. The cited reports provide observations and project statements, not a basis for certainty about future returns.
