Airbus said on 31 October 2025 that the airline converted seven existing A350-1000 passenger-aircraft orders into orders for its A350F freighter. The announced A350-family total therefore remained 33 aircraft: 20 A350-1000s, seven A350Fs and six A350-900s.
What Korean Air changed in its A350 order
Airbus’s 31 October 2025 announcement described the transaction as a conversion of seven existing A350-1000 orders. It was a change in the mix of aircraft Korean Air had ordered, not seven additional aircraft on top of the original order.

The original order for 27 A350-1000s and six A350-900s was announced by Airbus in April 2024. In its 2025 announcement, Airbus also said Korean Air had already received two A350-900s. The revised figures describe the order breakdown in that announcement, not a claim that all remaining aircraft had been delivered.
Why Korean Air made the conversion
The available announcements establish that Korean Air changed seven aircraft orders from the passenger A350-1000 to the A350F freighter, but they do not give a Korean Air-specific explanation for the decision. Airbus’s release quotes Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, its executive vice president of sales for commercial aircraft, calling the decision a significant endorsement of the A350F’s capabilities. That is the manufacturer’s characterization, not a direct explanation from Korean Air.

The announcements also do not state the conversion price or a delivery schedule for Korean Air’s seven A350Fs. Those details should not be inferred from the order conversion alone.
What Airbus says the A350F can do
Airbus described the A350F as under development in October 2025. Its January 2026 A350F factsheet lists a maximum payload of 111 tonnes and a maximum range of 4,700 nautical miles (8,700 kilometres). These are manufacturer-published program specifications, not independently measured performance from an aircraft in service.

The factsheet also says the A350F is powered by Rolls-Royce Trent XWB-97 engines. Airbus reports up to 40% lower fuel consumption and carbon emissions compared with previous-generation aircraft offering similar payload-range capability. That is Airbus’s comparison claim; it is not a promise of that reduction on every route or versus every freighter.

Airbus’s January 2026 factsheet reported 81 A350F orders from 11 customers at the end of December 2025. This is a dated manufacturer-reported total, not a current October 2026 order count. Korean Air’s conversion was one part of a program Airbus was still describing as under development in its October 2025 announcement.
