The available public information does not establish a verified, current Kmart liquidation-sale schedule or a complete list of stores newly closing in 2026. A public tracker showed three Georgia closure records as of October 3, 2026, but it does not disclose the addresses or underlying sources. Those city names also appeared in 2018 closure reporting, so the tracker alone does not confirm a new round. Call a store or check a current official notice before travelling.
Is Kmart closing stores in 2026?
A public page from Store Closure Watch, updated October 3, 2026, listed three confirmed Kmart closure records in Georgia: Albany, Statesboro, and Jesup. Its public summary withholds street addresses and source links. Because those same Georgia cities were named in reporting about a 2018 closure round, the tracker entries cannot, on their own, be treated as new 2026 closure announcements.
The reviewed information does not include a current official Kmart closing announcement or a verified sale schedule for these entries. Confirm directly with the local store before making a trip; a tracker record or an old liquidation notice is not proof that a sale is happening now.
Kmart closing-store list: what the dated reports say
The entries below distinguish historical announcements and completed closures from the tracker’s undated-at-address-level records. None of the historical sale dates below should be read as active.
#1 Best Overall
| Store or location | What was reported | Status of the information |
|---|---|---|
| Albany, Georgia — 2525 Dawson Road | Local coverage named the store among three Georgia locations slated to close in early April 2018. | Historical 2018 announcement; not a current closing notice. Albany Herald |
| Statesboro, Georgia | Local reports named the store in the same 2018 closure round, with a March–April 2018 timing window. | Historical 2018 announcement; not a current closing notice. WJCL |
| Jesup, Georgia | Local coverage named the store in the 2018 Georgia round, with an early-April planned closure. | Historical 2018 announcement; not a current closing notice. Albany Herald |
| Bridgehampton, New York | The Associated Press reported on September 23, 2024, that the last full-scale mainland Kmart was scheduled to close October 20, 2024. | Dated 2024 planned closure, not a current operating-status check. Associated Press |
| Sunny Isle, St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands | A regional report said the store closed in the first week of July 2025. | Reported completed closure in 2025. The Virgin Islands Consortium |
| Lockhart Gardens, St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands | The same July 2025 report said a storewide liquidation had begun earlier that month and the scheduled last business day was August 16, 2025. | Historical sale and planned final day; both dates have passed. The Virgin Islands Consortium |
| Tutu Park, St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands | The July 2025 report said the store remained open and no official closure notice had been reported at that time. | July 2025 status only; current operation is not verified. The Virgin Islands Consortium |
For the three Georgia tracker records, the public page does not provide the address-level details or sources needed to establish whether they refer to newly announced closures or older records. Do not use the city names to infer a current store address or sale.
What liquidation-sale dates are documented?
2016: a specific company-wide closure round
In an April 21, 2016 corporate announcement, Sears Holdings said 68 Kmart stores and 10 Sears stores were slated to close in its summer round. The release said liquidation sales at the closing Kmarts would begin May 12, 2016. That start date applied to that 2016 round only; it is not a current Kmart sale date. Sears Holdings’ announcement
2018: Georgia closures without a current sale schedule
Local reports support the planned 2018 closure timing for Albany, Statesboro, and Jesup. They do not establish a liquidation schedule that can be used today.
2025: Lockhart Gardens liquidation
The Virgin Islands Consortium reported that the Lockhart Gardens liquidation had begun earlier in July 2025 and that August 16, 2025, was then scheduled as the store’s last business day. The report also said fixtures, shelves, and back-room equipment were marked for sale at that location. These were details of that specific, expired sale—not a general Kmart offer.

How to check whether a local Kmart is closing
- Check the date and source. Look for a recent company notice or a dated local report, and distinguish a confirmed announcement from a tracker entry, flyer, or rumor.
- Match the exact location. Confirm the street address; a city name alone may refer to an old closure record or a different location.
- Separate closure from liquidation timing. A closing announcement does not by itself establish when a sale starts, what it includes, or the final day to shop.
- Call the store before travelling. Ask whether it is open, whether a liquidation sale is currently underway, and what date the store expects to close. Dates and inventory can change.
A flyer is not the same as a confirmed closure. The July 2025 report on Tutu Park described speculation connected to a flyer while noting that no official closure notice had been reported then. That is a dated example, not evidence of the store’s status today.

Kmart closure coverage spans different years, territories, and kinds of evidence. The Associated Press reported in October 2024 that a small Miami store was the last operating Kmart in the continental United States and counted four additional stores across Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands at that time. Those figures describe a 2024 snapshot, not a verified October 2026 inventory. Associated Press

- Announcement: a company or credible local source reports a planned closure.
- Scheduled closure: a future last day was reported, but the date may have passed or changed.
- Completed closure: a report says the location has shut.
- Tracker record: a listing may be useful, but its date, address, and source matter. The public Georgia summary does not reveal enough to verify a new 2026 round.
