KiwiCo is a family of activity subscriptions, not one single crate. The Kiwi Crate line is designed for ages 6–9 and is described by the company as including supplies and instructions for two to three projects. Current listed starting prices range from $24 per crate with an annual plan paid upfront to $30 month-to-month; the lowest per-crate price comes with the longest commitment. This is a practical buying guide, not a hands-on review: no specific crate was opened or photographed for this article, so it does not claim to assess project quality, durability, child engagement, or adult help.
What does “KiwiCo Crates” mean?
KiwiCo offers distinct crate lines for different ages and interests. The right choice depends on the child’s age and the kind of activity they enjoy; Kiwi Crate is only one of the options.
| Line | Company-stated age range | Stated focus |
|---|---|---|
| Panda Crate | 0–36 months | Early development and play |
| Koala Crate | 3–6 years | Play and early learning |
| Kiwi Crate | 6–9 years | Hands-on STEM/STEAM projects |
| Atlas Crate | 6–12 years | Geography and culture |
| Doodle Crate | 6–12 years | Art and design |
| Tinker Crate | 9–12 years | Science and engineering |
| Eureka Crate | 12 and up | Focus not specified in the cited overview |
| Maker Crate | 12 and up | Focus not specified in the cited overview |
These ages and themes are KiwiCo’s descriptions; availability can depend on destination and checkout. See KiwiCo’s crate overview for line descriptions. Do not assume the age range, delivery cadence, or price for one line applies to another.
What is included in Kiwi Crate?
KiwiCo describes Kiwi Crate as a monthly subscription for ages 6–9. The company says a crate includes pre-measured supplies for two to three projects, a step-by-step Explore! magazine with activities, stories, and theme-related facts, and a sticker sheet. Its support page says the included supplies are sufficient for the projects. Those are product-description claims, not observations from opening a box; the page does not establish how a particular child will manage the projects or how much adult assistance they will need. How much does Kiwi Crate cost?
KiwiCo Support currently lists these starting prices for Kiwi Crate. The listed amount is per crate; billing interval and commitment differ by plan.
| Plan | Starting price per crate | Billing and commitment |
|---|---|---|
| Annual, paid upfront | From $24 | Paid upfront for an annual plan |
| Pay-as-you-go annual | From $26 | Billed monthly with a one-year commitment |
| Quarterly | From $28 | Billed every three months |
| Monthly | From $30 | Month-to-month |
The listed annual prepaid rate is the lowest per-crate starting price; monthly is the most flexible plan described by KiwiCo. “Billed monthly” on the pay-as-you-go annual plan does not mean month-to-month cancellation. The prices are current starting rates, not a guaranteed checkout total: promotions, destination, tax, shipping, and plan details may change what you pay. Check the live checkout and the current Kiwi Crate pricing page before subscribing.

Can you skip or cancel a Kiwi Crate subscription?
KiwiCo’s support information says subscribers can skip a month, update shipping information, change a plan, and cancel before the next billing date to avoid the next month’s charge. The precise terms depend on the plan and account. Review the current account options and billing date before relying on a cancellation to stop a charge; a monthly billing schedule on an annual commitment is not itself a month-to-month term.
Is KiwiCo worth it?
Whether the subscription fits your budget depends on how often the child will use the projects and whether the commitment suits your household. Compare the price with how you value a recurring, themed activity that arrives with supplies and instructions. If flexibility matters most, the monthly plan has a higher listed per-crate starting price than annual prepaid; if minimizing the listed price matters more, annual prepaid requires paying upfront. A one-off activity kit may better suit a family that does not want recurring deliveries, but no specific alternative or price is established here.

KiwiCo says it has shipped over 50 million crates worldwide, a company-reported figure that indicates reach, not educational effectiveness. The Johns Hopkins review available here concerns KiwiCo Education learning materials and is limited to instructional design; it is not evidence that consumer subscription crates improve learning outcomes. No independent efficacy figure for consumer Kiwi Crate subscriptions is established in the sources cited here. See KiwiCo’s company description and the Johns Hopkins instructional design review.
Which KiwiCo crate fits a younger child?
Panda Crate is the line listed for ages 0–36 months, while Koala Crate is listed for ages 3–6. KiwiCo says Panda deliveries are every other month and offers Essentials, Plus, and Deluxe tiers. Its product page displayed a 4.8 rating from 3,197 reviews when accessed on October 8, 2026; this is a company-site figure for Panda Crate only, not an independent rating and not a rating for Kiwi Crate. See the Panda Crate page for its current details. Do not apply Kiwi Crate’s pricing to Panda or another line.

What a genuine hands-on review should show
A useful photo review should identify the exact crate line and age range, say how many boxes were opened, and show what was actually inside. Original photos should be owned by the publisher or used with permission, captioned accurately, and tied to specific observations rather than broad claims about quality. For a crate-by-crate review, useful evidence includes the project steps, finished result, time spent, material durability, child engagement, and adult assistance—none of which can be responsibly assessed from the official product description alone.
