Kinze announced its 5000 Series electric-drive row unit in February 2023 for two model-year 2024 planters: the 5900 and 5700. The 5900 launch lineup used 30-inch rows, while the 5700 offered both 20-inch and 30-inch configurations, including a new 24-row, 20-inch model. Kinze said the redesigned row unit was built to plant at speeds up to 12 mph; that figure is the company’s stated capability, not an independently verified field result.
What Kinze announced
On February 15, 2023, Kinze Manufacturing introduced the 5000 Series row unit alongside the 5900 and 5700 planters for model year 2024. In its launch announcement, the company said the new models would replace the 4905 and 4705, respectively. That describes the launch plan; current availability and specifications should be confirmed for a particular machine.
The 5000 Series is a redesigned cast row unit. Kinze paired it with Blue Drive electric drive and the Blue Vantage display, and said growers could upgrade from a True Rate vacuum meter to the True Speed high-speed meter. Kinze president Susanne Veatch described the design as “built to run longer and stronger, while providing increased protection for farmers’ investment.” That is the manufacturer’s durability claim, not an independent finding.
How the 5900 and 5700 configurations differed
At launch, the key distinction was the offered row spacing and lineup. Kinze announced the 5900 in 30-inch rows only; the 5700 included both 20-inch and 30-inch layouts.

These are configurations in the 2023 launch announcement, not a guarantee of what is currently orderable. Kinze’s New for 2024 overview provides the launch-era model context. For a current build, compare the exact frame, row spacing, row count, seed and fertilizer capacity, meter, and available options with a Kinze dealer.
What was distinctive about the 5700 24R20
Kinze described the 5700 24-row, 20-inch model as a 40-foot, three-section planter. The company specified front-mounted high-flotation tires, a rear-facing transport camera, work lights, high transport clearance, and 30 degrees of wing flex. Kinze positioned the configuration for high-residue conditions, rolling terrain, and narrower terraces; these are manufacturer-described use cases, not independent comparative results.
5000 Series design details and options
Kinze’s launch release listed several maintenance-oriented design features:
Rank #2
- Recommended for 14+ years and up, not recommended or intended for play
- Functional row guides, free rolling wheels
- Pin hitch 1/64 Compatible
- Die Cast construction with rubber wheels & some plastic parts

The company also said buyers could equip the row unit with residue-control, closing-wheel, fertilizer, and seed-handling options. The current 5000 Series Row Unit page describes integration with Blue Vantage and presents a broader set of row-unit options. It also says the 5000 Series push split row unit is offered exclusively on the 5670 pivot-fold planter; that is current product-family context, not part of the original 2023 announcement.

How to interpret the 12-mph claim
Kinze said the redesigned row unit was designed to plant at speeds up to 12 mph. That is a manufacturer-stated design capability. The available sources do not establish that every crop, field condition, planter setup, or operator can achieve that speed while maintaining a particular level of placement accuracy or yield.
Rank #3
- Recommended for 14+ years and up, not recommended or intended for play
- 31 row planter with functional row guides
- Compatible with most 64th scale tractors
- Diecast body with rubber wheels, some plastic parts
- Approximate dimensions: 5.25in L x 15.5in L x 2.5in H
The sources reviewed also do not provide a named independent yield comparison, maintenance-cost result, or planting-accuracy statistic for the 5000 Series announcement. The design features may be relevant when evaluating intended maintenance and operating characteristics, but they do not by themselves prove a specific durability, cost, accuracy, or yield outcome.

For a practical 5900-versus-5700 comparison, ask a dealer to confirm the current model-year specification and price for the exact machine rather than relying on the launch lineup. Focus on the details that affect your operation:
- Row count and spacing, including whether the needed layout is currently offered.
- Frame configuration and compatibility with your field access, transport, terrain, and residue conditions.
- Seed and fertilizer capacity and the options available for the build.
- Meter choice, including True Rate vacuum or True Speed high-speed where applicable.
- Current warranty terms and dealer availability for the specific configuration.
Kinze’s 5900 page, 5000 Series row-unit page, and FAQ provide current manufacturer information, but a dealer should confirm the specification and terms that apply to a particular unit. Kinze’s FAQ states a two-year hitch-pin-to-closing-wheel warranty for planters equipped with Blue Drive electric drive and a one-year warranty for non-Blue Drive electric-drive planters. Because warranty language and applicability may change or depend on configuration, confirm the terms for the machine you are considering.
